We will See Ya'll Saturday!!! Stay Safe, Warm and Festive Erie!

After speaking with City employees and officials, event sponsors, and our Board of Directors yesterday and today, we have made the difficult decision to postpone and move Downtown d’Lights to next Friday, December 13th.

A few factors made it impossible to hold this week, mainly how thin city services and our safety ambassadors are stretched meeting the demands of clearing streets and sidewalks. With more snow on the way, more decorating to do, and several major event partners unable to show up this Friday, we feel it is best to wait until the 13th so we can give Erie the Downtown d’Lights celebration they’ve come to know and expect.

Waiting will give us time to clear parking spaces to accommodate more guests, line up shuttle assistance from EMTA, make sure our skating rink is open for business, decorate the park and install the tree without ripping up the ground, and make sure the sidewalks and walkways are safe for pedestrians to walk on.

The 13th is also Gallery Night, and we are working with the Erie Art Museum to cross promote the events and draw an even larger crowd Downtown that evening. Our Holiday Makers Market in the Boston Store that evening will start once the park has been lit.

We are still holding our make-up Small Business Saturday market at the Boston Store, Art Museum, Ascend, and 1020 this Saturday, December 7th, and are hoping to encourage people to come down and safely enjoy those indoor events. Unfortunately d’Lights, being an outdoor event with more services needed from the City and our team, is much more difficult to make happen in this short window. There are many other events still happening as scheduled this weekend, please watch our social media as we promote our Downtown businesses, restaurants, and institutions that will be back open for business this weekend!
