Scalp micropigmentation for women is a cosmetic procedure that deposits tiny dots of pigment into the scalp to mimic hair follicles, creating the illusion of density. Unlike the full shaved-head version men often receive, women typically use density SMP—pigment placed between existing strands to reduce the contrast between hair and scalp, thereby making a widening part or thinning crown appear fuller.
You do not need to shave. The process requires two to three sessions over approximately six weeks, with pigment custom-matched to your hair color and skin tone. It lasts four to six years before fading, and touch-ups are necessary.

Is Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) the right choice for you?

Scalp micropigmentation (SMP) stands as a prevalent and effective cosmetic solution for male pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia), a progressive hair loss characterized by a receding hairline and/or thinning at the crown.

SMP involves the meticulous deposition of thousands of minuscule pigment dots into the upper dermis of the scalp, effectively replicating the appearance of short, shaved hair follicles. The outcome is either the manifestation of a complete, close-cropped “buzz cut” or an augmentation of visual density in areas of thinning—all without the need for surgery, medication, or actual hair regrowth.

Addressing Different Stages of Male Pattern Baldness

My SMP approach is based on the Norwood scale:
• Early to moderate stages (Norwood II–IV): Density enhancement (also known as high-density or density-fill SMP). Pigment is strategically placed between existing hairs to minimize scalp visibility, fortify a receding hairline or temples, and fill a thinning crown.

• Advanced stages (Norwood V–VII): Full-scalp “shaved-look” coverage. This technique creates the illusion of a complete head of closely shaved hair, including a natural-looking hairline tailored to the individual’s facial structure and age. It proves particularly beneficial when minimal or no hair remains on the scalp.

• Hybrid use: Often combined with hair transplants—real grafts for the frontal hairline or key areas, complemented by SMP to enhance overall density or conceal donor scars.

The Procedure

• Typically involves 2–4 sessions spaced 10- 14 days (or up to a few weeks) apart.

• Each session lasts a few hours.

• Pigment color, dot size, density, and placement are meticulously customized to achieve a natural 3D follicle effect rather than a flat tattoo appearance.

Immediate Visual Improvement:
After the initial session, noticeable visual improvement is observed. Final results become apparent over several weeks as the pigment stabilizes.

Longevity of Results:
Results generally last several years (often 5-6 years) with optional touch-ups as the pigment gradually fades.

SMP appears most natural with short hair (buzzed or closely cropped styles). Longer styles can still benefit from density work but will not create the illusion of a “full head of longer hair.”

Men’s eyebrow grooming, commonly referred to as “guy brow” grooming, is not concerned with achieving perfectly sculpted arches. Instead, it emphasizes maintaining a clean and masculine appearance.

Simple guidelines for maintaining a clean and masculine brow:

1. Not all eyebrow shaping methods are suitable. Avoid waxing and threading, as they can result in excessive hair removal.

2. Clear the Center: Remove hairs growing between the eyebrows to prevent the formation of a unibrow. Align the inner edge of the brow with the outer edge of the nostril. Lightly trim brow hairs that have excessive length.

3. Preserve the Top: Refrain from plucking or shaving hairs from the top line of the eyebrow. This action distorts the natural shape and gives the brows an overly manicured appearance.
