This client came in wanting to just cover her grown out highlights. Instead we decided to leave some dimension and instead of a “traditional highlight” do a lived in application so that it’s low maintenance for her. She loved it and was so happy with the result!!

I think one of the most confusing things I do to my poor guests is interchange the words “gloss” and “tone” every five seconds. I am constantly having to clarify that, even though they are different words, they mean the same thing!

If you’re wondering.....”what IS a gloss/tone, exactly? And do I need one?” Let me explain!

So when lightener gets put on the hair....any hair.....what you see is called the raw lift. Depending on about a jillion factors, this “raw lift” can be anywhere from red to orange to gold to yellow, and all similar colors in between. Sounds colorful, right? 🥴❤️🧡💛

So how does your stylist counteract those warm tones? That’s where the gloss comes in. The gloss can either enhance the warm tone that’s already showing (for example, an orangey color can be turned into a gorgeous copper or warm brown. Or a yellow blonde can be turned into a shimmering, golden or champagne blonde.)

Or on the flip side......if warm colors don’t make your heart sing, the gloss can neutralize the warmth instead. A yellow blonde can be tuned into icy or beige, depending on the starting level of brightness....or that harsh gold color can be turned into a darker, cool-toned brown....like the example in the picture!

Glosses are generally a Demi permanent color that is applied over the raw lift, and will fade over time. The less you wash your hair, the longer they last. Washing your hair in cold water can help them last a lot longer, too! Also, making sure you have healthy hair to start with is super important. I love recommending for hair strength and growth.

When the gloss is completely gone, that’s when you could come in and get it reapplied to maintain what you had the first time, or you could always change it up and try a new gloss, depending on your mood or the season 🙌🏻 🍁

The only thing glosses can’t do, is lift your hair to a brighter color by themselves. Meaning, if your hair is only able to lift to orange, your stylist can’t put a gloss on you to make you icy blonde. Other than that, there are amazing options!

At Salon Halcyon the health and wellness of our clients and employees is and has always been our priority. We maintain an exceptionally clean work environment. Even so, we are taking extra precautions to keep our salon sanitized in an effort to flatten the curve related to the spread of COVID-19. This includes continued use of hospital grade disinfectant to sanitize our tools, surfaces, and common areas.
We will also be taking additional precautionary measures in our salon such as implementation of single use cups, suspending hand and neck massages, pre screening each guest at booking and confirmation, limiting the number of guests in our waiting area and implementing at home, self quarantine, in the event any person on our team is exposed or is ill.
In Colorado both our line professionals and our salon are licensed, regulated, inspected, and governed by a state level regulatory body. COVID-19 aside, these measures are intended to protect the health and safety of all who enter our salon at all times.
Currently, the CDC recommends social distancing for those who have tested positive for COVID-19, those with symptoms, and those who have been exposed to the virus through a member of our community or through travel. If fit into one of these categories, please postpone your appointment.
We have staffed our salon for the near future in a manner that perpetuates as much social distancing as is feasibly possible. Bringing friends and family members to your appointment compromises the benefit of this objective. 🙏🏽🖤
