Hair spaces have traditionally been separated by gender: women go to salons/men go to barbers. This causes concern for many people who are not cis or straight, completely excludes people outside of the binary, AND plays part in crappy gender roles.
Gender, sexuality, and self expression can be very personal, sometimes confusing parts of life, and nobody should feel like they need to explain themselves in order to validate their desired hairstyle. It is not always easy to present yourself the way you would like to look, as a stylist, I AM HERE TO HELP! Your hair is yours! Wear it how you want, and remember: HAIRCUTS HAVE NO GENDER! This is a huge part of why I price my haircuts based on length, techniques, and time spent in the service, not percieved gender. The hair industry has been priced on a gender binary for far too long, let's do better and create an inclusive culture for the future!

Dear Mermaids, Using Faction 8, I was able to deposit this base color in a demi-permanent formula! 🙌 GAME CHANGER! 🙌 This is great news for anyone who is a rule bender, because it e x t e n d s longevity, and allows home care flexibility! *(rainbow highlights are still a traditional semi-permanent and I can't wait to see how this one fades 🥰)* 🌈💗

Let's talk home care! Pastel colors are beautiful, but they are also a lot of work. Not only do they require more lifting than darker vivid tones, but they come with even stricter guidelines in terms of home care. These photos were taken 16 days apart. The left photo is from the day I colored my hair, and the right photo was taken 5 minutes ago. In those 16 days I washed my hair FOUR times, using sulfate free products, and hot water. This is why home care is SO IMPORTANT. Because I am a color chameleon and I'm currently wearing my hair super short, I don't mind redoing my color every couple weeks, but most clients prefer a little more longevity out of their looks. Even using proper products, hot water stripped my color out in just over 2 weeks 😱🥶 Sooo: when I tell you to wash cold, as cold as possible, freezing cold if you can, this is why. Believe me when I say that I am familiar with the feeling of ice cold washing. I know it's not the nicest feeling, but it's worth it when you can extend your color longevity significantly! This goes for all semi-permanent colors, but especially pastels. I often suggest that clients deposit their color in a darker tone, so that they can experience a wider range of tones while fading. Believe it or not, this is our version of a low maintenance look for this babe 🕺🙌😄 She was a solid blonde client but didn't want to worry about root touch ups through her busy summer, so we deepened her root to match her new growth which allows her to extend the time between touch ups. I see most of my mermaid color clients every 2-4 months depending on their home care and tonality, so we chose to go with a darker purple to maximize the longevity. I used a combination of and to create this color, then styled with Deflect and Firewall 🥳
