I have long been a lover of public libraries. I have a collection of library cards from every city I’ve lived in. I’ve helped kiddos that I’ve cared for get their own library cards. I’ve spent countless hours browsing–books for myself, books for kids, cataloging away titles in my “To-read” list on Goodreads when my ambitions exceed my available time.

I have many fond memories of visiting the Burton Barr Central Library in Phoenix after school. The fifth floor boasted a “Great Reading Room” with an ACRE of space with various configurations of desks and chairs. I remember the excitement of being able to check out as many books as I wanted (probably as many as I could carry) and the joy of discovering new words, new ideas, and new information… a wealth of fresh perspectives!
