Your appointment begins with an exceptionally clean, professional environment and an emphasis on ocular hygiene. Your extensions should ALWAYS feel comfortable. Not painful, pokey, irritating, or leave your eyes excessively watery or burning.

I’ve been doing a little professional growing behind the scenes lately, and one of the things I’m most excited to share is that I recently completed an ocular hygiene course with SAMANTHA WALTERS | OCULAR HYGIENIST | CLINICAL LASH EDUCATION 🤍

As a lash artist, I’m not just interested in creating beautiful lashes. I want my environment to feel cozy and welcoming while still being clean and safe for every person who comes to spend their time with me.

I already take cleanliness seriously. I use a heated, wipeable vinyl sheet on my lash bed that is sanitized between clients, disinfect my tweezers and other tools used near the eyes, and keep multiple sets of tweezers on hand so I can properly disinfect between each client without having to rush the process.

But recently, I started thinking beyond my setup and more about the eyes themselves.

The beauty industry is becoming more health-conscious, and I want to be conscious of that, too. I want to understand more about the environment around the eyes, proper ocular hygiene practices, and how I can continue creating a clean, comfortable experience for every client who gets on my lash bed.

Because when you’re choosing a lash artist, cleanliness matters.

Your lash extensions are applied incredibly close to your eyes, so the space you’re receiving them in, the products being used, and the hygiene practices of your artist are all things worth paying attention to.

This course gave me even more knowledge and confidence in the practices I already have in place and gave me new things to bring into my studio experience moving forward.

Always refining.
Always looking for ways to be better at what I do.

A little behind-the-scenes look at what I see from my side of the lash bed after a 2-week grow-out.

These lashes have held up really well. I think I can continue to progress and advance in my ocular health training to get them even better… but that’s not the point of this post rn 😆

You can still see the original shape, density, and styling, and they’re not a tangled, mangled mess. But you can also see exactly why it’s time for a refresh.

It’s always a given as your natural lashes grow and shed, you naturally lose some of those inner and outer corner extensions first. A few lashes may have grown out, some have shed, and the overall fullness starts to lose its freshly-done look.

That’s where your fill comes in. 🤌🏼

I remove the grown-out extensions, clean everything up with your ocular health in mind, replace what has naturally shed, and rebuild that fullness and shape so you leave with a full, uber clean, fluffy lash line again.

And this is something I think is important to remember: your lashes are going to look different from my view than they do to you when you look in the mirror.

I am wayyyy up in your lash line! 😂 I can see all the little gaps, grow-outs, direction changes, and areas that need attention that you may never notice with your eyes open.

The goal of every fill is to restore the beautiful shape, fullness, and styling you love. 🖤

It’s almost been a year of offering lash extensions in Springfield, Oregon, and lately I’ve been doing a lot of refining behind the scenes. ✨

Moving into a new space comes with so many little adjustments, and after nearly a year of learning what works, what could work better, and what I want this next chapter of my business to look like, I’ve been putting some new goals and systems into place.

Because as much as I love creating beautiful lashes, the experience surrounding them matters to me too. I love being in a small private studio!

A clean, comfortable environment. Straightforward, streamlined communication and services. Quality products. Continued education. Thoughtful application. And above all, healthy natural lashes underneath it all. 🤌

I’ve been in this industry long enough to know that being good at what you do doesn’t mean you stop learning or evolving. If you think you’re the best and the greatest.. you’re probably not. Complacency kills art. Have humility and do self evaluation. If anything, I think it makes you more aware of all the little ways you can be better.

So I’ve been tweaking things. Simplifying things. Setting new goals. Getting really clear about the direction I want to continue taking my business making sure the experience I’m putting out into the world reflects the quality of work I expect from myself.

We’ll save the sentimental one-year post for end of September/October. 🥹 For now, just know I’m over here quietly working on making something I already love doing even better. 🤍 I’m one of the lucky ones who has a career out of this wild hobby.
