Hey! We are off to the beach for a few days, but we wanted to drop into your inbox to let you know about some available appointments we have next week! But first...

Yeah. That number up there? Look, we are so grateful for you making appointments with us this summer because we know you are busy. And normally we would assume that those representing that number wouldn't be the sort to open one of these emails, but this time they are.

We have hearts as big as can be and we recognize there are some circumstances that are beyond control. But that number above represents the amount of no-shows and late cancellations in the first 18 days of this month. I mean, wow. And what is more? on two separate occasions three appointments no-showed on THE SAME DAY.

This just never happens. But it's kind of devastating. To quote one of our stylists yesterday, "I would cry but at this point I'm just dead inside."

We do have a flair for the dramatic, we artists.

In the past we'd make a big change because it feels good to do SOMETHING. Imagine filling a tub for a bath and it keeps leaking. Shove a sock in it! Something! How frustrating!

The thing is, we think our clients are the best in the world. We think this is a fluke. We think it's summer. We think that most of the time our guests make choices that they think are the best ones in the moment. We think life is a lot.

This doesn't mean that it's ok when people don't show up. We normally wouldn't say anything because no-shows and late cancels are really rare here! Maybe the only thing a person didn't consider is that she might not be the only one to not show up today. She might be one of three.

A late cancel is within 24 hours of the booked appointment. A no-call/no-show is when you know. You don't show. Or call to be like "hey. I'm not coming because life sucks."

So please, please, please. Give us as much notice as you can when life deals you lemons. Or a friend wants to take you to the beach. Or you didn't think about back to school fees or whatever. We adore you and want you to stay forever.

And we don't want to work nights at the Waffle House next door.

Just a quick reminder that as my 7 year-old tells me Columbia County schools start back August 4! Be sure to pop by with your little ones in the next few short weeks for a haircut or color.

Kids under 8: $40 for 30 minutes*
8-13 $50 for 45 minutes*
Partial highlight with haircut is $160, recommended for children middle school and older.

Are we really talking BTS?

Hey! Welcome to our weekly email when we tell you all about what is happening at Darling Hair Workshop + Photo Studio! Yes, we are talking about Back-to-School because we would love to be a part of getting your little ones (and not so little ones) ready for the school year!

If your girl is in middle school, can we recommend highlights? Not only does the process boost confidence, it can also help with oil control and aid in styling. All of our blonding services come with a trim, and it's just the sort of thing to give your teen/tween some much needed TLC after a lazy summer. Wondering what to book? We recommend a "partial highlight (blonding service 2)." $160 and two hours, it is enough to give dimension and oil control where she needs it most!

Y'all. I am so grateful to have been so booked this spring/summer! This week is no different, with my only available appointment for color at 10am on the 11th (with one or two mens' haircuts available throughout the week. The rest of the month is picking up as well, leaving next week with my only real availability for the month! Please be sure to grab an appointment, for you and your littles next week!

Building Hair Trust

Welcome to our weekly newsletter! Every week we send a quick update with all the news and events happening at Darling Hair Workshop + Photo Studio, including access to last minute appointments to give you the start your day deserves.

Before going blonde this spring my last turn in the color chair was in 2019. That's right- between opening the salon and being a long time color virgin, I was really anxious to sit in a stylist's chair because:
1. I was a terrible client. Anxious. Picky. Rash. A poor planner.
2. If I did it myself I could only blame myself for messing it up.
3. It was cheaper if I did it myself.
4. I don't tend to talk myself out of bad color choices.

This winter after noticing a decent bit of grey, as well as other things indicative of being a 46 year old woman, I decided there was one shift I could easily make to shift my mood: going blonde. Only this time, I would be a client. I would sit. I would converse. I would get shampooed. And most of all, I would invest both money and confidence into one of my coworkers.

As a stylist, what was my biggest concern?
The integrity of my hair. Sure, there are the other things we think about: the tone, the placement of the foils, etc. But my hair is WEAK. It can take one good bleach-lashing, but beyond that it's spaghetti. Everything else is an afterthought to me. Toners shampoo out. Placement? If I'm not as bright up front this time I can be the next. But the integrity: if the hair has no substance or shine, what's the point of it being blonde?

My stylist now knows that about me. I watched last week as she carefully weaved out pieces of previously lightened hair so as to not take them a step too far. And this is what we mean when we talk about building trust with our clients.

Going to a salon once or twice because it's cute, and then trying another because it's bougie, and then another because your friend got her hair done there will do NOTHING bust wreak havoc on your hair. Staying with a stylist longterm will not get you into a style rut, but instead will ensure the integrity of your hair & ensure you are making a wise investment. And what is more? Over time a very special kind of friendship develops. It's a new episode that gets released every 6 weeks for 3 years. 5 years. And if you stick around, I have several clients I have served since I was pregnant with my son over 18 years ago. These are as good as family to me.

So in searching for a good salon, we would like to encourage you to rest here. Not every relationship lasts 20 years, but it could.
