Touching on something that’s really important in the extension world—but also something that gets confused a lot: beaded weft vs. hand-tied extensions.
These are two completely different foundations and two completely different types of wefts and bead work. Thankfully, I specialize in both, so I’m able to recommend the best option based on your hair.
Beaded Weft Method:
This method uses a row of beads to create a foundation, and then a volume weft is sewn onto that beaded row. It’s great for creating fullness and tends to work beautifully for clients with thicker or denser hair.
Hand-Tied Extensions:
With hand-tied, the foundation is created with beads that are tied together on string, forming a very thin, flexible base. A much thinner weft is then sewn in, making it lightweight, buildable, and extremely natural-looking—perfect for fine or thinner hair.
I truly love both methods, and I don’t believe one is better than the other. Every head of hair is different, which is why customizing the method to the client is so important.
For fine or thinner hair, I typically recommend hand-tied.
For thicker hair, a volume/beaded weft can be an amazing option.
