Tired 3am Jamie, proud and sleepy and humbled after cobbling together a salon from thrift store shelving, alley furniture, and a few cans of paint.

The new location opens up tomorrow and I’ve gone more bright and colorful than ever. Almost every piece of it was individualized with my own two hands, and I’m just so excited! It feels like my surroundings are more like my insides.

I know I went out on my own to work for myself a while ago, but for some reason, this move feels so huge!

Evanston was fun, I loved all my people, but man does it feel good to be home!

Most people reach for the bright tones in Summer, but Fall and Winter are my favorite times of year for creative color! Why?

✅It’s not so hot and you don’t sweat as much, so you don’t need to wash your hair as often!
✅Chlorine and sun fade your color SO FAST. So does lake and ocean water! Less outdoor time means more longevity.
✅It gets so dark and dreary here in Chicago during the colder months! Having fun hair adds some fun and brightness to otherwise depressing times.

I might go a little brighter soon too 👀 My slimey limey green just never feels smiley enough 😜

What’s your current color inspiration?

You don’t always need tons of bleach to have tons of impact!

Throwin it back to this transformation (I never posted 😬) when we gave Caitlyn a couple rows of colorful tape in extension to avoid relightening all the hair we had recently tinted back dark.

More brightness, more pop, more fun, but zero bleach damage.

We’ve since gone back to more color throughout her natural hair, but this gave her locks the rest time they needed to grow and get super healthy so they’d be ready for that!! And we never compromised the look along the way 🔥

Colors like this, while they can be SO MUCH FUN, aren’t all fun and games! They’re serious work and commitment!

Creative color is high maintenance, high cost hair. Colors like this can only really be shampooed 1-2 times a week, with cooler water, and color safe shampoo is non negotiable!

If you stay in one color family you’re able to use tinted conditioners or shampoos to keep it up, but with something like this one, throwing something on top would ruin it so you just have to embrace the fade!

Brittany is a real life mermaid.

I’ve been using vivids since the beginning of my career, and I’ve never found brights that I like better. Shoutout to their aquamarine and neon green shades for absolutely carrying this look.

And also shoutout to for keeping her very long hair super healthy and bouncy throughout a big bleaching process. We are obsessed.

It’s about that time, friends. Effective immediately, masks will be required in the salon again regardless of vaccination status.

With the emergence of the Delta variant and prevalence of breakthrough infections, this seems to be the best way to ensure everyone stays safe.

I’ve loved the chance to see all your beautiful faces again, and hopefully we’ll be able to get back to that soon. But I’m the spirit of keeping each other safe, we’re masking up in the meantime.

When you want to go blonde, but like… maintenance is not for you.

This is one of my FAVORITE kinds of color to do, believe it or not! I love love love creating low maintenance hair color. It still looks almost as good when you come back as it did when you left!

I love and value each and every one of you. Without your support and loyalty, I would not be where I am today!

Over the past year, my availability to see you all has gotten more and more limited. Since early in 2021, I've consistently been at a place where my schedule is nearly full for eight or more weeks into the future. Hiring my assistant has helped with this, but it has not gotten anywhere near solving the problem.

Because of this, I've begun staying late, offering Sundays even though that's supposed to be my day off, etc.

It's so important to me you are taken care of, and I've done my best to do so, but unfortunately I am only one person and color takes a long time. Putting in A LOT more hours for me doesn't even make a dent in the availability that's needed, and I've seen a lot of frustration on your side as well as mine with the difficulties surrounding finding an appointment or rescheduling to a new time.

In order to take steps toward remedying this issue, it's time for me to make some larger changes. 𝗕𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆, I will be implementing a 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆. And 𝗯𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝘂𝗴𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝟭𝘀𝘁, a 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗹𝗲, and a 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 will follow. I know we just had some changes in April, but I've discovered after a few months that it wasn't a large enough change to see improvement.

With the new schedule, 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀, which means a decrease in evening time slots. New 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝟮𝟱% 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲. I understand that this means I may no longer be a good fit with your schedule or budget, and there are no hard feelings! If you need recommendations or a summary of what we've been doing with your hair to pass on to your next colorist, I am happy to help.

I love the relationships I have with all of you, and I'm so grateful for both the time we've gotten to spend together and the life I've been given due to your support.
