Labor Day hits a little differently when you’re a woman who owns a small business, works with her hands, and employs other women doing the same.

Sugarholic is built on skilled labor — the kind that can get brushed off as “just beauty services,” even though it takes training, physical work, emotional labor, time, and a whole lot of care to do it well.

I’m proud to have built a space where women can make money, build a clientele, learn a skill, and grow into something of their own. And as someone who believes working people deserve dignity, fair pay, healthcare, rest, and an actual life outside of work, Labor Day means a lot more to me than a sale or a three-day weekend.

Businesses don’t exist without workers. Communities don’t function without workers. And the people doing the work deserve to benefit from the value they create.

And speaking of women building something together… meet Aubrey. 🤎 Today is her very first day at Sugarholic! You’ll start seeing her around the studio here and there while she learns the ins and outs of the business, helps behind the scenes, and gets a feel for everything Sugarholic. She’ll also be starting esthetics school in the coming months, and we are so excited to watch her learn and grow from here.

So this Labor Day weekend, here’s to women doing skilled work, supporting other women, building something of their own, and getting paid for the value they create.
