Many people ask how I would protect women and girls in bathrooms, often framing it as though there is a wave of crimes in women’s public restrooms. There is no evidence of that. National law‑enforcement data shows no pattern of safety incidents linked to bathroom access. In reality, people are statistically far more likely to be harmed in their own homes by someone they know.

Indiana’s data makes that clear. Fifty‑nine percent of women in the state experience domestic violence, Indiana receives an “F” grade for domestic‑violence protections, and 95% of shelter requests go unmet. Indiana also ranks among the highest states for child maltreatment, and reviews show that girls are more likely to be victims in sexual‑abuse related deaths and abuse‑related homicides. When girls are harmed, it is overwhelmingly within their own family circle and often the consequences are deadly.

Other states have reduced these risks through evidence‑based policies such as Extreme Risk Protection Orders, expanded home‑visiting programs, stronger child‑welfare funding, and prevention‑focused education.
These ideas have been introduced in Indiana over the years.
None have advanced.

I stepped into this race because no one else; man or woman, was willing to run, and our community deserved a choice. I was recruited by a strong woman running her own campaign. My campaign manager is a woman. The people I lean on most for honest advice are women. My county party is led by women. And the three people who shaped my life the most: my grandmother, my mom, and my sister are all strong women.

Most importantly, my wife models strength and empowerment every single day, and my daughter already shows more courage and brilliance than I ever will.

I will always stand up to protect women and children. That starts with listening to women, trusting women, and respecting women as the ones who know their lives best.
