Today marks one year of sobriety for my favorite person, and I’ve had so many thoughts running through my head about what this year really means.

Society has created this idea of what the “perfect man” is supposed to look like; strong, successful, unshakable, always having it together. But I think there’s something so much more admirable about a man who is willing to admit when he doesn’t.

A man who takes accountability, chooses himself, asks for help, who is willing to look at the parts of himself that hurt, the choices he’s made, and the things he wants to change & then actually does the work.

That deserves to be celebrated too.

You pulled yourself through some incredibly hard things this past year. You faced yourself, made difficult choices, sat with uncomfortable truths, and continued to choose a better life, one day at a time.

And now on the other side of that first year, I hope you realize just how incredible that is.

I don’t think the greatest version of a man is the one who never struggles. I think it’s the man who struggles, takes accountability, gets back up, and decides that his life is worth fighting for.

And that is exactly what I see in you.

365 days is something to be incredibly proud of. But I’m even more proud of everything you had to pull yourself through to get here.
