Text Back Tuesday: When your scalp turns on the garden hose 📱🚿
I just looked down at my phone to another classic client text:
“Why does my actual scalp hurt like a bruise… and why did the back of my neck just get soaked out of nowhere?! I’m sitting in air conditioning, my shirt is dry, and my blowout was ruined in thirty seconds flat!”
First of all: take a deep breath. You are not losing your mind, and you haven’t suddenly developed an allergy to your own hair.
Welcome to the biological plot twist of your Second Spring.
When estrogen and progesterone fluctuate, our body's internal thermostat (the hypothalamus) gets a little dramatic. Instead of a full-body hot flash, many of us experience what clinicians call localized craniofacial sweating. Your arms are bone dry, but your hairline looks like you just ran a 5K in July.
Then comes the kicker: your scalp is not only sweaty, but your roots actually ache to the touch. That tenderness has a clinical name too—trichodynia. When hormones drop, inflammation surges around the hair follicle, and the tiny arrector pili muscles around each hair strand physically hold tension. Your hair literally feels bruised.
Between sweating through your hairline and nursing tender roots, your scalp is screaming that it’s overstimulated.
And honestly? It makes you think about a much deeper soreness.
For 20 or 30 years, we’ve carried the invisible stuff: remembering everyone’s doctor appointments, managing the emotional weather of the entire household, and smiling through the chaos. If your follicles can ache just from holding onto hair, imagine what your nervous system feels like holding everybody else’s expectations.
Your body isn't broken. It’s simply doing big, transformative work and asking you to lighten the load.
So let’s text back today:
1️⃣ Keep cold water and a mini fan nearby when the hairline flash strikes.
2️⃣ Take down the tight ponytail or claw clip—give those roots some slack!
3️⃣ Drop it in the comments: What is one unspoken expectation you’ve been carrying that your body is telling you it’s too exhausted to hold anymore?
Take the weight off your shoulders today. I’m reading every single reply. 💜

Drenched hairline one minute… rebel wire hairs the next. Welcome to midlife hair! 😂✨
If you’ve been feeling like your scalp has developed a split personality lately, you are not imagining it.
One minute, your internal thermostat goes haywire and your hairline is completely soaked from a head-only hot flash (ruining a good hair day in about thirty seconds flat).
Then you dry off, look in the mirror, and spot a rogue strand sticking straight up at your part that feels like a bent piece of copper wire.
Here is what is actually going on:
When estrogen shifts in perimenopause and menopause, our temperature regulation gets dramatic, causing sudden localized sweating. At the exact same time, lower natural oils leave our hair drier, and shifting hormone levels can slightly change the physical shape of the follicle pore. The hair growing through that altered pore comes out with a coarse, wiry, zigzag texture that completely refuses to cooperate.
What you can do about it:
Keep cool water or a personal fan handy, and pat—don't rub—your hairline dry.
Step away from the tweezers! Plucking rebel hairs damages the follicle. Instead, smooth a tiny drop of hair oil or leave-in conditioner over it to soften the texture.
Feed your follicles from within with steady hydration and healthy dietary fats.
And honestly? Maybe that stubborn wire hair has the right idea.
How often do we bend over backward to please everyone else, saying yes when we’re exhausted and over-explaining our boundaries?
Take a cue from that rebel strand this week: stand your ground, protect your peace, and give an unapologetic “no” to what drains you.
Have you experienced the soaked hairline, the rebel hair—or both at the same time? Drop your stories below! 👇
This week, I’m changing things up a little. No video—just a quiet moment to share with you.
This morning, I stepped outside after the rain and enjoyed the cool air. The sky was still full of clouds, and the moon was shining through so beautifully. 🌙☁️
At 61, I’ve learned to appreciate these simple moments—the quiet of an early morning, the freshness after a storm, and the beauty right above me.
No big plans. No rushing. No trying to check ten things off the list before breakfast.
Just me, standing outside, taking a deep breath, enjoying the coolness, and taking in the view. ✨
Maybe that’s part of becoming your Second Spring, too.
Not becoming someone new—but learning to slow down, notice the little things, and appreciate the woman you already are.
I hope you find a quiet moment for yourself today. 💜

We’ve all watched Dolly Parton reign as an icon for over fifty years, but have you ever noticed that almost nobody knows what her biological hair looks like?
While the rest of us spent years frying our follicles with hot irons, bleaching our roots to pieces, or stressing over bathroom sink shedding during perimenopause, Dolly solved hair math early.
When asked why she committed to wigs, she famously quipped:
"I used to try to keep my own hair teased as big as I like it, and with the bleach and all, it just broke off. I thought, 'Why am I doing this? Why not just wear wigs? The minute somebody said, 'Gosh, you're so smart,' I didn't care if they thought I had hair or not.'"
And of course: "People ask how long it takes to do my hair. I say, I don't know, I'm never there!" 😂
As a cosmetologist of over thirty years and a board-certified trichologist, Dolly's approach reflects genuine hair wisdom: stop torturing your strands to meet impossible expectations. Wigs aren't a disguise or a compromise; they can be a protective style, an executive time-saver, and an instant mood lift.
Whether you're rocking your natural texture, nurturing a sensitive midlife scalp, wearing a topper, or switching wigs with your mood, own your crown with pride. Around here, we don't sweat the small stuff—we just flash it! 🪭⚡

The Manual: The "Phantom Itch" — And Why It Might Not Just Be Your Hormones 📚
If your scalp has felt like a live wire lately, you aren’t imagining things.
While estrogen shifts often trigger that phantom crawling feeling (formication), an itchy, inflamed scalp in midlife isn’t always purely hormonal. Under the trichology microscope, that itch usually falls into one of four categories: hormonal formication, seborrheic dermatitis, scalp psoriasis, or eczema — and each one calls for a different kind of care.
Treating a hormone-dry scalp with harsh clarifying shampoo just makes it angrier. Treating a flaky, inflamed scalp with heavy oils can make it worse too. An itch is information, not a diagnosis — and it deserves a real look before you self-treat.
That's exactly what the Complimentary Crown & Confidence Comeback Session is for. Come sit down with me, and let's take a closer look at what your scalp is actually trying to tell you — no guessing, no pressure, just real answers (and a referral your way if it turns out to be something outside my lane).
Swipe through the carousel to see how each condition can show up ➡️

I received these two messages, and they made my day. 🤍
One client told me her visit felt nice and relaxing. Another took the time to tell me her color was perfect—and thanked me for listening and adapting. That means so much to me.
Thank you for trusting me, for telling me what you need, and for sharing how your visit felt afterward. I’m grateful for every one of you. And yes, I’ll probably be smiling at these texts for a while. 😊
