These two Iconic Black women never cease to amaze me! This is why I work so hard to achieve my goals, because these two women are my heroes. Historical Data reports show that Annie Turnbo Malone was actually the first self made woman millionaire in the entire world. Madame CJ Walker worked for her before she started her own company. The fact is, they both were black and they both were hairstylists and built multimillion dollar businesses, during the Great Depression! Just to let you know they built businesses during a time when people could not afford to eat. These women where both driven, defeating odds that most of us could have never overcome. These women grew up on slave plantations and orphanages and achieved massive wealth by pure determination. I salute these women during Black History Month and every month for that matter. As I research their business records, their marketing strategies, their investments, their properties they purchased, as a business woman, I am truly amazed!

Annie Turnbo Malone
Malone is recorded as the first black female millionaire based on reports of $14 million in assets held in 1920 from her beauty and cosmetic enterprises, headquartered in St. Louis and Chicago. Turnbo Malone, worth well over a million dollars, built a five-story multipurpose facility. In addition to a manufacturing plant, it contained facilities for a beauty college, which she named Poro College. The building included a manufacturing plant, a retail store where Poro products were sold, business offices, a 500-seat auditorium, dining and meeting rooms, a roof garden, dormitory, gymnasium, bakery, and chapel. It served the African-American community as a center for religious and social functions.
