I listened to an interview today where Francis Chan shared that his mom died giving birth to him, his stepmom died when he was 8, and his dad died when he was 12. As a teenager he felt like any day could be his last. He said he would preach thinking it could be his last sermon.
It made me wonder how differently I might live if I felt any day could be my last—what would I make more of a priority, and what would I worry less about?
I’ve been thinking about desire lately. I can say I really want something — a goal, more discipline, a closer relationship with God — but my actions will reveal what I truly desire.
What am I making time for? What am I willing to sacrifice to achieve it?
I think one of the biggest things standing in our way is comfort.
It’s waking up earlier.
Doing work when we’d rather be scrolling our phone.
Risking looking like a fool when we’d rather do nothing.
Most of the things we want require us to give up comfort to get there.
I keep reminding myself that I don’t have to have it all figured out, I just need to take the next step. To choose discipline over comfort, one step at a time.

When the novelty of something wears off or I don’t see the results I was hoping for, I have a tendency to jump to something else. But I have to remember that good things take time. The grind may not feel like growth, but I think that’s often where the most growth happens.
I’m not sure if you are feeling this way too, but lately I feel my mind is bombarded with stories of tragedy and evil. Every time I open Facebook there seems to be some more terrible news or new information in a case. I find myself thinking about it randomly throughout the day or when I try to pray. I needed this reminder from Philippians of what I should be training my mind to focus on.

I’m still learning to manage my time well but time blocking has helped me so much! It really helps me stay on task throughout the day and to make time for the things that matter to me. Do you use time blocking? I wish I learned it sooner!
