Common Reasons for Shoulder Pain

There are many reasons for shoulder pain, and many people who suffer from it. Here are some common reasons:

Rotator cuff tendinitis or bursitis

Arthritis in the shoulder joint

Bone spurs in the shoulder area

Bursitis (inflammation of a fluid-filled sac)

Broken shoulder bone

Dislocation or separation of the shoulder

Frozen shoulder (stiffness in muscles, tendons, and ligaments)

Overuse or injury of nearby tendons, such as bicep muscles

Nerve injury affecting shoulder movement

Tears of the rotator cuff tendons

Poor shoulder posture and mechanics

Sometimes, shoulder discomfort can originate from an issue in a different part of the body, like the neck or low back, or even forearms. This is known as referred pain. With referred pain, there’s typically persistent pain at rest, and it doesn’t change with usage.

I OFTEN explain to my clients who have one shoulder/neck/sided headache issue more than the other it can often come from a hip issue TYPICALLY (but not always) from the opposite side. The body likes to balance itself. So if one hip is higher, the shoulder will drop. Next thing you know, ouch! All the neck issues! 😮‍💨.

This can lead to issues like:
-Thoracic Outlet Syndrome
-Migraines
-Low/Mid back pain
-Shoulder pain
-Elbow or wrist pain
-etc.

The body craves to be even and balanced. Sometimes the issue isn’t coming from the area of pain, but a secondary location causing the puzzle not to fit together quite as nicely as it could.

2-3 massages over a month can greatly reduce this if properly addressed, followed up by at home stretches, as well as just being aware of their posture and stance.
