I so much appreciate the referrals and requests! It’s a great area to do what I do. My two curly stylist referrals for Fayetteville have informed me they have also needed to close their books for new clients at this time. We all LOVE the love but we are only a few minority. I hesitate to share too many personal details on this professional hair page but today I need to share some personal information with any of you who should want to read this far.

I have been coasting the last two years just hoping I wouldn’t completely give up and change careers. Most of the reason has absolutely nothing to do with my clients. I’ve been struggling with mental and physical health concerns that have halted my growth as a stylist and as a person.

However this year has involved a LOT of healing and growth. My physical and mental health has begun to mend impressively fast since i adjusted my living conditions. I’m excited to be a new, joyful version of me.

I have some plans in the works I will be working on in the coming weeks that I am excited to reveal so stay tuned ❤️

Let’s talk about Thinning out curly hair!

My client has been coming to me for a few years with very long hair. There has been a lack of density midway through her long hair due to previous thinning shears. We have been slowly cutting it out until Today we chopped most all of the remaining thinned out hair off!

The issue with thinning out curly hair is that thinning usually does not achieve the goals people are looking for.

Thinning shears cut the hairs shorter randomly to reduce the amount of hair at the ends. This can add a lot of texture and movement to straight or straightened hair which is BEAUTIFUL!

However

Thinning shears DO NOT alter the shape or silhouette of curly/wavy hair.

Most of my clients have horizontal volume. While straight hair naturally lives in a 2 dimensional shape close to the head, Wavy, Curly, and Coily hair grows out from the head into a more of a 3D shape rather than laying flat against it. The curlier it is, the more outward it lives. The density of your hair does not change where your hair shape naturally lives. Thick straight hair still lives against the head.

When thinning shears are used on curly hair, it disrupts the curl clumping patterns and the end result will look similar to having breakage or damage ends because the short hairs no longer clump the way they should.

If you’re attached to thinning out your hair the way I always did, then stop and think about what your goals are:

Do you really have too much hair?
Or is your hair shapeless and triangular?

Sometimes I’m discouraged. Sometimes im so burnt out, I want to quit from physical and mental exhaustion. life has been hard lately. Sometimes I wonder if what I do really matters that much anyway.

Sometimes I have imposter syndrome and compare myself to incredibly talented stylists who I look up to.

And sometimes I get a review from someone I just met and it nearly brings me to tears just like this one.
