💡 DID YOU KNOW? 💡

Did you know that cellulite is much more common in women because of the way our connective tissue is structured?

Cellulite is incredibly common, harmless, and structural. It has a lot less to do with body weight than many people think. In fact, cellulite is estimated to affect 80–90% of women after puberty and can occur at virtually any body size.

So, what actually causes those little dimples?

Underneath our skin, we have fat cells surrounded and supported by fibrous connective tissue bands which contain collagen. Some of these bands can tether the skin downward, while the underlying fat pushes upward between them. This is what creates the uneven, dimpled appearance we call cellulite.

And here’s where women and men differ!

In women, these connective tissue bands tend to run more vertically, creating column like spaces where fat can protrude upward toward the skin.

Whereas men tend to have connective tissue arranged in more angled and intersecting orientations, creating a stronger criss-cross support system beneath the skin. This is one of the major structural reasons cellulite is significantly more common in women.

In other words: having cellulite doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with your body, it’s largely anatomy!

So where does cellulite cupping come in?

Cellulite cupping uses gentle, moving suction over the affected area rather than leaving cups stationary. This massage style lifts and mobilizes the skin and underlying tissue while increasing local blood flow and lymph movement. Research studies have found improvements in things such as skin smoothness, firmness and the visible appearance of cellulite following a series of treatments.

Because cellulite is structural, cupping isn’t going to permanently “remove” it. But regular treatments may help soften and smooth its appearance, and consistency is key when you’re working toward cosmetic results.

‼️Cellulite Cupping is now available at Willow & Root!‼️

I’ll also be offering skin firming cellulite oils and multi-session packages for anyone who wants to commit to a regular treatment series and get the most out of their sessions. 🤍

Common. Harmless. Structural.
And absolutely nothing to be ashamed of.

💡 DID YOU KNOW? 💡

Did you know that Massage Therapy is more than just a spa trip?
It's a form of healthcare.

Common misconception views massage therapy as an expensive way to just relax and pamper yourself. However, science has shown that it is much more beneficial than just simply relaxing!

Yes, relaxation of the mind and body is a widely accepted outcome of massage. But I'm here to tell you that it affects so much more,
Such as:

- Muscular system and connective tissues
- Skeletal system
- Circulatory system
- Lymphatic system
- Nervous system
- Endocrine system

Beyond relaxation, research has shown that massage therapy can aid in

* injury and pain prevention (THIS ONE IS HUGE)
* soft tissue healing and recovery from injuries
* improving range of motion and flexibility
* Reducing pain caused my musculoskeletal dysfunction
* Reducing tension
* Breaking down scar tissue
* Improving circulation
* Improving lymphatic flow
* Reducing stress hormones while increasing happy hormones
* Improving sleep
* Improving overall mental health and well-being

Think about it this way: we regularly service our vehicles but scoff at the idea of servicing ourselves regularly. But we need maintenance and upkeep to run properly just like anything else!

And massage is exactly that - upkeep for your mind and body.

You don't need to wait for a gift card, birthday, holiday, or special occasion to get yourself to a massage. Simply existing in this chaotic life is reason enough!

Always remember :
✨ self care is healthcare ✨

💡 DID YOU KNOW? 💡

Did you know that chronic stress may be one of the most overlooked contributors to poor health?

When the brain perceives stress, it activates the sympathetic nervous system, commonly referred to as the "fight or flight" response. This response triggers the release of hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol, increases heart rate & blood pressure, and increases muscle tension in preparation for a threat.

The problem that many of us don't talk about is that we experience high levels of stress on a daily basis! This causes the body to remain in a heightened state for long periods of time, causing a system built for short term survival to start having long term impacts on our health

Over time, chronic stress can lead to

-tight muscles and chronic pain
-headaches and migraines
-jaw clenching and TMJ discomfort
-poor sleep quality
-chronic fatigue and burnout
-digestive/metabolic disturbances
-feelings of anxiety and overwhelm

Chronic stress doesn’t only affect mood and muscle tension. Elevated stress hormones can also contribute to inflammation, water retention, weight gain and bloating, weakened immune function, and an increased risk of chronic health conditions over time such as autoimmune disorders, high blood pressure and heart disease.

Massage therapy helps stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system, often referred to as the "rest and digest" response. This encourages the body to shift out of a state of stress and into a state of recovery, healing, relaxation and natural flow.

Research suggests that massage helps reduce cortisol levels while also increasing the release of serotonin and dopamine ~ neurotransmitters associated with mood regulation, relaxation, and overall well being. This actively aids in combating the conditions of chronic stress!

In other words, massage isn't simply about relaxing muscles, it's also about supporting the nervous system that influences how your body responds to and handles stress.

Understanding how stress affects the body is often the first step toward managing it
