Yesterday I said farewell to my long time client Michelle 👋🏻 She’s been with me since I first opened over at Sola and is moving to Maine to be closer to family.
Surprisingly Michelle has been my most adventurous client.
She tried nearly every facial on my menu and from Brows to Brazilian, we had lots of laughs, some tears and so many stories and experiences in between.
Notably, she had very coarse brows that are also light and the first time I tinted them they came out SO DARK!
I was so concerned she would never return. But she handled it with grace and allowed me to correct it and it was a great bonding moment.
The relationships we create in a private studio are so much deeper than what you get with a salon and I am forever thankful for these moments.
Also, as we were saying goodbye, she happened to mention her age due to the timing of her move. I was shocked that all this time I never knew she was 73.
She replied, “Well, it’s all the work you do on my skin!”

Best wishes and beyond, Michelle ✨🫂

Life update! I’ve been busy and with my 5th year in business anniversary approaching, I wanted to take time to share a few things.
I recently did a huge student research project about the effects of Botox and emotional processing. It’s a mega deep dive and I won’t get into it here. However i will say, Botox is not good yall and there are many things we still do not know about it. My faculty advisors were impressed with what I uncovered and I am currently in the works for additional funding for undergrad student research studies. Which is exciting!
My son traveled with his band through Lake Fenton HS to Disney and marched the opening parade, had a workshop with Disney composers and a general fun time with his friends.
The same week my daughter and I traveled to California. We explored all over Downtown LA, Santa Monica, Venice Beach and a little bit of Hollywood. Super fun for just her and I. Travel is highly important to me, as well as giving these experiences to my children. Getting out of your bubble and seeing the world opens your eyes in ways that nothing else can.
And of course I’ve been busy at work in between all of this! I’ve been nearly booked solid for my days that I’m on schedule. And as I tend to do, fell away from creating content to share. Sometimes when I give an immersive, relaxation treatment - it’s calming and grounding for me too. Adding a camera and thinking about performing for an algorithm is just an extra stress that I don’t need.
I am more than words thankful for all of you who continue to come through the door and see the real side, not just what’s put on the internet. Because that’s where the authenticity lies.
However! Expect a little more content coming because I did decide to take the summer off from my studies. I have another new treatment landing, and will be offering a totally new service that’s not skin care 😳!!
See you soon XXO 🤗
Hey guys! I’ve been absent here the last few weeks. I am merging both of my worlds!
I am working on a pretty in depth research project. Part of it will be a Student Conference Submission and am in communications with my professor and colleague to talk about a controlled study on this subject.
With the rates of Botox skyrocketing, there is much we know, and also don’t know about its effects on inter and intra personal affect to perceiving and experiencing emotion (what we feel within ourselves and what others feel in interactions with us).
There has been a LOT of research on emotional processing with and without the application of Botox.
Many empirical studies in the past have relied on FACS, a facial action coding system, (a long complicated catalog of photos of facial expressions) Yet clinical, lab based studies of a handful of subjects are always heterogeneous (diverse findings).
I have some hypotheses about the flaws in recreating emotion in a lab setting and ideas of how to do controlled studies without FACS.
I have had to put my bias aside, as I am NOT a proponent for Botox. However, there is evidence that the facial feedback hypothesis exists considering patients with treatment resistant depression have received Botox in their Glabella (frown) lines and 2 months later experienced an improvement in mood.
While this is exceptional, we have to consider results of the alternative. If the power to improve mood exists, the power to lower/dull mood must also exist.
This is why client transparency and education about effect of Botox is highly important.
Especially for increasingly young patients- do we know if this is creating new neural pathways of learned behaviors of blunted emotions? Do people perceive those with Botox as less authentic because of the limited ability to create an authentic (Duchenne)smile? Think micro expressions and social cues we receive from the face.
If you have more questions I’m always open for chatting in the treatment room 😻
