Fern Midwifery

Young mothers are so incredible! This amazing mama and her family made an empowered choice to switch from planning a hospital birth to a homebirth at 32 weeks and she had an absolutely amazing birth.

This sweet little one decided to surprise us by coming out breech, only discovered when she fully rumped (the term normally known as crowning in a head-down birth). Her family, friend, doula, and support doggies all stayed calm and the birth space remained totally positive and her entrance was seamless.

Breech birth is something I have done many hours of continuing education learning about, and she was my ninth breech birth attended at home.

Midwives welcome family involvement and even beloved pet involvement. Homebirth is family-centered and this family is the embodiment of love and support which benefits mama, baby, and everyone. 💕

Midwifery is about so much more than birth. It recognizes and respects the tenderness of the entire childbearing year. Midwives nurture, care, hold space for the struggles and joys of this precious time for families. Personally, some of my favorite visits are postpartum visits. I truly love caring for new families, and I’m so grateful for the midwifery model which values continuity of care through the postpartum period versus the obstetric model of one postpartum visit at 6 weeks. So much growth and transformation happens during those tender first six weeks! It’s such a blessing to be a part of it. 🤍

Recertification for CPR class completed tonight! Midwives are always keeping fresh on their skills. ✅

Posted with permission: big sister loves to help with the prenatal visits! She also had fun shaking her b***y to her baby sibling’s heartbeat today. I love seeing all the different holiday cheer in people’s homes, as well. Midwifery care is family-centered! 💚
