To Our Valued Clients

Let me start by saying, I Do Not have any earth shattering news about reopens as there is no definitive answers and things change daily. Sorry to disappoint. 😊 Also, I apologize for the long post but felt I needed to share.

You have been in our thoughts over the past couple months and we are hoping you are all staying healthy and safe during this crazy time.

The purpose of my post is for awareness as owners/stylists and clients are experiencing 2 different sets of challenges. Clients are eager to receive services and desperately need there hair or nails done. Some stylists are eager to get back to work while others are hesitant, feeling this reopening is too soon and unsafe. Some all also dealing with the effects of the lockdown. As we all know, each person has there own feelings and opinions on this whole situation. What is good and right for one person is not the same for someone else.

From a clients perspective returning to a salon will be a bit different. The most inconvenient thing is being required to wear a face mask and perhaps have your temperature taken (who would’ve thought we’d become doctors now 🙂)

From an owner or a stylists perspective the view and stress is completely different. Some of you may know the new guidelines and others may not. I wanted to take the time and share with you SOME of the new guidelines that will greatly impact our industry as a whole.

Below is a consolidated list from a 6 page document that comes from NYS:

“ What changes for barbers and salons?

Hair stylists and barbers will be able to resume cutting, coloring and styling hair in Phase 2 — with strict precautions in place, including face shields.

What about eyebrow waxing? Beard trimming? Nail services? Those will all remain prohibited.

Hair salons and barber shops will be restricted to three services only, according to the state’s rules:
Hair cuts
Hair coloring
Hair styling
Anything that is not related to one of those services will not be allowed during Phase 2.

Among the services that are specifically prohibited by the state’s rules:

Beard trimming
Nose hair trimming
Facials
Nail services
Makeup application
Threading
Tweezing
Waxing

That means nail salons will not be able to reopen during Phase 2, according to the state’s guidance Friday.

Barbers and hair stylists will be required to wear not only a face mask but also a face shield when cutting, coloring or styling someone’s hair.

Other employees will be required to wear face masks, too, as well as customers.

“(Owners or managers) must ensure that all employees wear a face covering and a face shield that completely covers the nose and mouth when providing service directly to/on customers (i.e. haircutting services),” the state’s rules say.

The state’s guidance says managers and owners are “strongly encouraged” to require their stylists and barbers tested for COVID-19 before returning to work.

The guidance also says employees “shall be tested every 14 days” as long as their region remains in Phase 2.

Like retail stores, the state will limit salons and barber shops to 50% of their usual maximum capacity. (This also means stylists can not service 2 clients at the same time)

Customer seating must be at least six feet apart — unless a shop installs a “physical barrier” in between, such as a Plexiglass shield or a strip curtain. “

There has been much debate and confusion as to when a reopen will happen. There is still no such specific date. Businesses are dealing with who will be returning to work, who is changing careers, can they sustain the impact to only working at 50% capacity?

I can speak for myself and the majority of business owners and stylists out there.... We Love and Appreciate Each and Everyone of You that has supported our business. Wether you visited 1 time or have been coming for 20 plus years. THANK YOU! We would not have come this far without your loyalty.

I put this out there on my business page for the sake of awareness, so when your stylist or favorite business can’t give you a straight or definitive answer about appointments or reopens, they truly don’t know yet.

Business owners are navigating ALOT and are under new stresses and new circumstances.

Working with a face mask on, a face shield, and in disposable gowns All day, and having to change between clients, is not appealing to anyone. Our industry is full of free spirited, artistic, creative, caring, sociable people. We love what we do and for most of us it’s our job and our hobby.

We hope that any of you who have been affected financially, physically, or mentally by this pandemic, will find relief and be able to regain your normalcy soon.

This is a time for patience, kindness, and understanding for everyone, as we all have suffered in some way.
