This piece is deeply special to me; for a few reasons, but the most important is because it symbolizes .

The people that know me, know my big brother has suffered from serious mental illnesses. Growing up so close with him, I was often called “mother hen” from the amount of protection I had over him. The world is cruel and belittling him was common. I used to always reassure him that he was unique; like us all, but also special. The words, “I am enough” was what I told him to let him know he’s perfect just the way he is. Ironically, as I aged I realized that most of the time bullying came from someone that dealt with mental health issues themselves.

I, myself have had bouts of depression. Along with many people I know and love. The semi-colon at the end represents ***deAwareness — stating that ‘your story isn’t over yet’.

STATISTICALLY:
“1 in 20 U.S. adults experience serious mental illness each year. 1 in 6 U.S. youth aged 6-17 experience a mental health disorder each year. 50% of all lifetime mental illness begins by age 14, and 75% by age 24. Su***de is the second leading cause of death among people aged 10-34.”
