American commodity agricultural giants like Cargill want to tear down a path through the Amazon rainforest to create a railway. The Ferrograo EF-170 Railway would run from Sinop to Mato Grosso and help the agricultural giants reduce shipping cost for grains (soy and wheat). The railway alone would deforest 568,000 acres of the Amazon rainforest. The expanded grain monocropping operations would lead to further destruction. Cargill is one of four companies which have an oligopoly on meatpacking.
