🧠 Long COVID brain fog finally has a scientific explanation

For years, millions of people suffering from Long COVID have reported ā€œbrain fogā€ā€”trouble with memory, focus, and thinking clearly. Now, researchers in Japan have identified a biological cause behind these cognitive struggles.

A team at Yokohama City University used an advanced brain imaging technique called [11C]K-2 PET scanning to reveal abnormal increases in AMPA receptors (AMPARs)—molecules crucial for learning and memory—in patients with Long COVID. Elevated AMPAR levels were directly linked to both the severity of brain fog and higher inflammation markers, providing the first clear molecular evidence of the condition.

Published in Brain Communications (Oct 2025), the study found that AMPAR density could distinguish affected individuals from healthy ones with remarkable accuracy—100% sensitivity and 91% specificity. This breakthrough opens the door to new diagnostic tools and potential treatments, such as drugs targeting AMPAR activity.

With brain fog affecting over 80% of Long COVID patients worldwide, this discovery is a vital step toward validating patients’ experiences and accelerating the search for effective therapies.

Writers don’t procrastinate—we just creatively delay inspiration. What’s your favorite way to avoid writing?

Should be writing, but here I am instead šŸ˜‚

My Writing Process, Step-by-Step
(A tragic comedy in 10 acts.)

You ever sit down to write and end up doing everything but that? Yeah, same. Here’s how I ā€œwriteā€:

1. Lock self in writing cave.
2. Decide the entire room must be deep-cleaned or the muse won’t show up.
3. Alphabetize bookshelf. Twice.
4. Organize junk drawer that has nothing to do with writing.
5. Light a candle for ā€œambienceā€ then spend 15 minutes watching the wax melt.
6. Google ā€œhow to get motivated to writeā€ and fall into a Reddit hole.
7. Decide I need coffee. Drive 20 minutes for the ā€œwriting blend.ā€
8. Make elaborate snack I suddenly can’t survive without.
9. Dramatically sigh and scroll TikTok to ā€œstudy storytelling.ā€
10. Write one sentence. Feel like a literary god. Reward self with nap.

Who do you think just recorded a podcast discussing her first published work? This author!

Want to be part of my next big thing?

I’m looking for a few thoughtful readers to be beta readers for my upcoming novel:

GOD, ARE YOU MAD AT ME?
A raw, emotional, fiction-inspired-by-truth story of trauma, healing, and faith.

What’s a beta reader?
A beta reader is someone who reads the book before it’s published and tells me what they loved, what didn’t work, and what made them cry (hopefully in a good way).

You don’t need to be an editor—just a reader who cares.

I’m looking for 10–15 readers to help me shape the final version of this book.

You’ll get:

• Early access to the manuscript
• A peek behind the curtain
• A thank-you in the acknowledgments
• And my eternal gratitude
