WOW! In 2004 I painted my first face for pay. Here I am, 20 years later and I still love doing makeup.
My career has been through some ups and downs to say the least. I started out with Mom's Maybellene and a few secondhand paint brushes from Hobby Lobby. From there I learned a lot from drag shows, volunteering for every fashion event I could and staying up late practicing the craft with friends and family. Finally, the day came when I was invited to work with major cosmetic brands like MAC Cosmetics, Loreal, Hard Candy Cosmetics, Jane Iredale and Real Techniques.
Along the way, I have had the pleasure of working with countless brides, prom queens, drag queens, pageant queens, mother's to be, divorcees, singers, dancers, movie stars, Fortune 500, authors, bloggers and TikTokers.
My work has been on bus stops and benches, billboards, big screens, small screens, phone screens, silver screens, car wraps, wedding announcements, baby announcements, funeral announcements, sides of buildings, Jailbird Magazine, Time Square and flyers that litter the ground
I have worked for makeup, bartered for makeup, bought makeup and gave $1000 of makeup away in a drawing. I've participated in sales competitions for makeup, and I've been given things that never made it onto retail shelves. My makeup has been stollen from where I worked (all of it at one point), my home and my car. I have truly lived the phrase, "You win some, you lose some".
With every bit of my career, I have to connect with people. I have to physically engage with people. People I get along with, and people I would be fine never seeing again. Through 20 years of interactions, I have learned a lot about humans and especially myself.
Thank you to everyone who allowed me to touch your face with creativity, art and passion. The simple act of what you have allowed me to do over the past two decades means more to me than you could ever know.
