See you all in the new year! Thank you for all the kindness, joy, and community over the last year. The last four years! I’m so looking forward to a staycation, a chance to get caught up, and rest.

I used to pride myself on being a but these days, I seek peace and balance. Our bodies and minds require it, and without time to process/reflect/recharge, we can lose ourselves.

So I will be less available by messages (texting is still the best way to reach me), but I will be around 💗 happy holidays!!!

Happy Thanksgiving from our family to yours! I started writing a very long list of the many people, moments, and things that I am thankful for. But for now, I want to thank this sweet potato, Catrina Coconut, for the joy and comfort she has brought into our lives these last three months. She was rescued by @baltimore_aarfies and fostered by @kab5912 with so much love, care, and devotion. She’s been such a brave girl, and she reminds me to slow down and snuggle, to trust and adventure. I spend a lot of late nights at the shop catching up on what I call “wig work”, and having her join me on occasion has meant the world to me. On behalf of the shop, I made a donation to their amazing organization this season of giving, and if you are so inclined, I can’t recommend a better group of volunteers more deserving of support. They always have doggies that need loving homes, so if you’re looking for a companion, check them out. Update from the now healed scalp biopsy! The results are in and I do have the type of #hairloss previously suspected. There were a few clues potentially pointing to #diffuseareata or another #autoimmune related #alopecia and I was managing my hopes. A lot of people would prefer, slightly, to not have #androgenicalopecia I think because it feels like there’s no hope. It’s this forward moving train that might be able to be slowed down but not fully stopped. So for a week or two, I wondered what it would be like to have my hair back. All of this discovery and years of mystery bring up a lot of emotions and memories, and as an anxious person, it was a lot to take in. And although the results weren’t different than I previously suspected, and there is no magic cure, and there is still some mystery to be solved for my wellness, for now, I am back in the loving embrace of my wigs and toppers. I am appreciative of these tools and resources to feel whole, and I’m thankful for people like the client today who wanted to check in and see how I am doing. It really means a lot to me! Thanks for coming on this trip with me and I wish any and everyone out there peace while you seek

She’s a real one! @bethdixon78 has a spark for life that is contagious, and I’m glad so many people get to glean a little bit of that goodness every day. While absolutely beautiful with her bio hair, this little #humanhairtopper gives her natural coverage. Shes been wearing this one for a little while. We’ve adjusted some clips, custom color, and added some extra hair where needed, as needed. Thank you for offering to share these before/afters with me, Beth! It’s been a season of learning and growing and listening to my body as I enter #middleage with some hiccups and struggles, but also revelations and opportunities, along the way. Largely, I have learned from my clients over these years that advocating for yourself and your health is just about the most empowering and powerful thing you can do as a woman, especially as we age. Putting it into practice presents all sorts of anxieties, at least for me. Change is hard and that’s ok. At least that’s what I tell myself when I’ve got to be very brave. Here’s a quick update about my #hairloss which I hadn’t personally really delved too deeply into up until recently. I know I’m not alone in this process, and I’m encouraged by the women who have inspired me to speak up, seek a second opinion, and trust myself along the way. Now is perhaps the hardest part… the waiting. But I know I’m in good hands and that eases so much of the #anxiety and stress. Thank you, Mallory! I never ask anyone for “before” and “after” pictures because someone asked me for some once and I felt so vulnerable. But Mallory insisted and she’s such a cheerleader, eager to live life to the fullest. She noted, and I totally agree, that it helps tremendously to be able to see what a transformation looks like. Maybe it’s nearly time to organize another photoshoot, y’all! Last time, I asked for volunteers and I met some pretty amazing people through the experience. We shared our hair stories and cheered each other on. It was therapeutic for sure! So this Friday night goes out to @malloryhew who first picked this #humanhairwig out of the line up directly before a flight. She wore it straight to the airport, never having worn a wig before. And she’s been all about the #wiglife ever since. She inspires me to dream, to adventure, and to do things that feed the soul. After 6 months of daily wear, we did a little tune up on her wig and went over some tips and tricks and she gave me a slew of tutorial video ideas to post about. Thank you again, Mallory. I used a few different rod sizes and a spiral/standard wrap to replicate her natural curls— less uniform, more free flowing. And in a few days, I’ll add a long root blend once the hair has a chance to settle into the perm before we do some layers on her. Did you know that naturally curly hair in #alternativehair #humanhair is hard to find? Same with natural reds, natural blondes, texture, grays, and whites. If you find a curly hair #readymade wig, it is most likely permed. That doesn’t make it bad! But it has to be done carefully and on healthy hair. Side note: I keep setting goals to post a little more often without following through. So I’m going to take the pressure off myself and hope it has the opposite influence! If I still had all my mermaid hair, I wonder if it would be gray by now. Would it still be wavy and soft? Would I know which way I part it? And would I be committed to bangs or no bangs? After a lifetime of having it, would I want to color it or let it be? Would I even think about it? When I put on a wig or topper, I get to ask myself these things. It’s like imagining a whole history but in present or future tense. There’s a bit of longing and some regret. Maybe a little bit of pride, too. But absolutely nothing concrete to hold onto, outside of my lived experience of losing a part of me and accepting that it won’t come back. And not knowing how different life would have been if that one thing were different. Talk about beauty! I had such a wonderful time getting to know these women during the photoshoot. We had a terrific conversation and shared a lot of the same beliefs about the idea of beauty.
