Beauty product users and buyers .....BEWARE!!!!
It has been brought to my attention lately that the majority of consumers are not aware of what diversion is in the beauty industry. As a professional in the industry, it is my job to educate you on beauty and the products you use on a daily basis. Therefore, I am here to tell you that if you are getting your professional beauty product(s) (professional meaning, Redken, Matrix, Bed Head, Pureology, etc.) from anywhere other than an authorized professional or salon,YOU ARE BEING SCAMMED.

This means Target, CVS, Walgreens, Jewel Osco, Wal-Mart, or any other grocery/convenience store that is not a salon. "Well how do they get it?", you ask. Here is what happens. The great members of what is called the gray market buy salon products from an authorized distributor. They set the products aside in a warehouse, building, etc until the barcode on the product expires and therefore becomes untraceable. This process takes quite some time to happen so, in addition to the barcode expiring, so does the product inside the bottle or can. Then, once the barcode and product inside have expired, they put on a sticker with a new barcode and sell it to chains like Target, CVS, etc. If you look at the barcode on the product you will see there is a sticker barcode over the original. There is also usually a disclaimer sticker that will state something along the lines of the product being provided by someone other than an licensed or authorized distributor.

It's no wonder I have guests who come in and say products don't work. If they are expired, of course they don't work. Shady, is what I have to say.

Where you buy your professional beauty product(s) is obviously completely up to you, but you must know that you are not getting what you pay for when you buy from anywhere other than an authorized salon. "But it's cheaper....Will it hurt me?" is the next question I hear a lot. I get it, we are all looking for the best price or a great deal, but please know that that your beauty professional, who you trust and confide in with your hair and other beauty needs, is not out to rip you off. The only cheaper part about those unauthorized products is the quality. When I was there the products were marked at the full retail prices suggested by the manufacturers.

As a professional in this industry, I care about you, your look, and your safety. I have no idea if that product off the shelf of a chain convenience store will hurt or harm you and/or your hair because I have no idea of what it is even made up of anymore due to the conditions it has been under. As a customer, you wouldn't be ok with consuming sour milk or rotten food when you go out to eat, but yet, we are willing to use expired beauty products on our body and the one head of hair we get for our entire life? It's not safe and it is not okay. And it definitely is not ok that you are not getting what you pay for. Also, the money you spend on products in the salon, is reinvested into the salon in order to fund education, new tools, new technology, and to provide you with the best stylist and experience. All I'm asking is that you make safe choices and take care of the body you were given. And if you have a beauty professional who trust and confide in with your hair and beauty, please support them and the salon buy getting your product from them. It's for your own good and your own safety.
