Well friends, the time has come—we are looking to add to our team at Carter Hair Design! We have been continually operation for over 50 years with a tremendous legacy and reputation in the community of beautiful hair and meaningful relationships with the very best clients now spanning generations. If you are a stylist who is looking for a change and a relaxed atmosphere, flexible scheduling, competitive commissions, and artistic freedom sound up your alley, shoot us a DM and let’s chat! We are heartbroken to inform the Carter Hair Design family that our patriarch, Francis Carter Senior, passed away on February 10th, 2023. Words fail to describe the man he was and will always be to us, but I suppose we must make our best attempt. Fran Sr opened the salon with his wife Lois in 1972 when they moved to Fredericksburg and they quickly made it home away from home. The walls of 1107 Caroline watched 47 of his 59 years as a stylist fly by, bearing witness to countless memories and relationships. He didn’t *have* to work as long as he did, but his enjoyment of the work and his love of time spent with his son, granddaughter, and grandson kept him coming in. He was always willing to help; he and Fran Jr had an uncanny ability to read each others’ minds and anticipate the other needing a quick hand. He had an easy-going sense of humor, always chuckling at the outlandish questions Stephen would ask him over lunch or teasing Kathryne for coloring her hair too ashy like a little old lady. When he wasn’t behind the chair, you could find him planting pansies or braiding daffodils in the front garden, tinkering with an eccentricity of our old building, or sitting in his chair, reading his Bible or just enjoying a moment of silence in between clients. While we are desperately sad and will miss him terribly, the thought of his reunion with Stephen in the Great Beyond is too wonderful for words. He joins those that have gone before him in our hall of ancestors; gone on, but forever with us. We will treasure so many precious memories with him as our dad, grandfather, stylist, and friend.

His celebration of life service day and time TBD, but we will post it here once it’s planned. 🤍

Happiest of birthdays to the one, the only, Fran Carter! And happy ✨yesterday✨ birthday to his almost birthday twin, baby Winnie. ♒️
