It is getting hotter by the day which means you are most likely going to the beach, lake, or pool sometime this summer.⁠

It's important to grab the right sunscreen. Get it wrong and your beautiful blonde hair is going to turn pink. Yikes!⁠

We are all aware of sunscreen staining clothes, but SPF protection could also be staining your extensions too. Dyed blonde hair or blonde hair extensions are particularly susceptible to discoloration; turning pink or orange in patches at the ends of their hair. Those with darker locks may notice a slight change in color, but the effect is much more noticeable on blonde hair which has been subject to more processing.⁠

Sunscreen Ingredients to avoid.⁠
1) Avobenzone (Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane) is an oil-soluble ingredient used in sunscreen products to absorb the full spectrum of UVA rays.⁠
2) Octocrylene, which is added as a stabilizer as the Avobenzone degrades in light. Together they are found in differing quantities in sun protection. ⁠

Why does it happen?⁠
Essentially the color change is a result of a chemical reaction. When the sunscreen is absorbed into the hair and exposed to UV light, it causes the cells to break down in a process known as Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS). The cells break down and seek out electron particles to form a new cell structure. ⁠

When the hair is rinsed in water, from showers and pools, then the electron particles in the minerals in the water such as Iron, Copper, Magnesium, Calcium, and Silica, attach to the hair cells creating a reaction.⁠

This is my favorite moment in the salon.

The still of the morning when I'm just walking in to flip on the lights and get the music pumping for the day.

𝟑 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐲 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐛𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐞 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬𝐧'𝐭 𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭

1. You are in need of toner. Toner fades away with each shampoo wash you do. If you are 2x washer in the shower 2-3 times a week that toner will be gone in 3-4 weeks. So make sure you are booking a toner/gloss appointment in between your regular maintenance appointments to keep your blonde looking bright

2. Blonde can look flat or dull when there is no dimension in the hair. It might sound counterproductive but adding lowlights to your hair will actually make your blonde brighter and stand out more when it has a contrasting tone to go with it. We're not saying it has to be extreme but a few lowlights can go a long way in making your blonde bright.

3. Maintenance. As we said before the toner fades away but also your hair is growing longer. This makes that once-bright popping front piece look not so bright because it's an inch or longer than when it was first colored.
