Tecnicolors Salon Closing

I want to inform all my wonderful clients of my retirement from the practice of Hairdressing after 44 years, the last 31 years at the helm of Tecnicolors Salon. It has been a deep honor to have had the privilege of caring for you and your family’s hair care needs during my 37 years in Gainesville. Owning Tecnicolors has been both fun and challenging, and I have come to know and love so many wonderful people. I will miss the regular visits with every one of you, but Gainesville is still a small town, so this doesn’t have to be a goodbye, just a change in venue, perhaps.

I’ve been asked many times over the last couple of years when I might be retiring, and the truth is, if I could have just given two weeks’ notice, I would have been retired for several years by now.

Well, this is my three-month notice, so to speak, and on December 23, 2022, I will put down my shears for the last time in the salon. Some of you know of my commitment to be retired before my next birthday. My body has been nagging me about giving it a rest and I must listen to it.

I am happy to give each of my clients a recommendation of which stylist I think will be the best match for you and we will schedule a free new client consultation for you with myself and your new stylist together.

Shawna & Ronni will be working at Avant Garde Salon after the Christmas holiday break. They will have all your color, keratin, Japanese relaxer formulas and extension history, and will continue to use Aveda hair color, so they will be able to recreate your color perfectly the first time.

Thanks, once again, for placing your confidence in me and my team and allowing us to care for you over the years. Initially, I will be spending my newfound free time trying to get used to NOT being a hairdresser and salon owner. I’ve been told it will be strange, maybe even difficult, but I’ve never been “just a hairdresser’. None of us in this profession are “just hairdressers”…….we’re a safe space to relax and be cared for, we’re often friends and confidants even sometimes being shoulders to cry on, some of us are big teases, and, when you’ve been at it as long as I have & have cut the hair of the children and even the grandchildren of some of my clients, it feels like being a part of a big family in the best way.

In any case, there are many other passions in life to indulge in, so it will all be OK. Initially, I will be continuing to develop the native landscape of our new home, expanding my collection of orchids, working on improving my Spanish skills, and deciding what volunteer work I want to do to better our community. And, of course, I'll be doing some traveling and experiencing more of the “bucket list” destinations high on my priority list, but y’all probably already know that.

We’re excited to announce our assistant Hunter is becoming a stylist here, real soon! To get this process started, we have opened his schedule to take color and cut models here at Tecnicolors Salon. The only charge is a $10 fee per bowl of color mixed. We welcome any and everyone to come in and take this offer while it’s available because it will only be going on until he is officially licensed!
