My back and hip are still on the mend after a very scary situation for our household. It was especially hard on my husband, who absolutely dotes on me. For the first time ever, he has set some very strict rules for my recovery. THIS is 66 ounces of his favorite, blue-collar-approved High Tide Liquid Soap.

And yes… my husband gets the entire jar all to himself.

Some people might assume I’m trying to dip into the pockets of blue-collar workers or step into a category that should be left to male soapmakers.

Truthfully? I couldn’t care less. Everything I offer for men was originally created for MY husband.

My responsibility begins and ends with the men in my home. Everything beyond that is simply me sharing what worked for us in case it benefits someone else.

Take our beard balms, for example.

Several years ago, whatever store-bought beard product my husband—a commercial HVAC technician—was using got a little too close to the sun and BURNED both his beard & the skin underneath it.

So I created beard balms - eliminating the mystery ingredients and unknown formulations from the equation entirely - and making his beard and skin my responsibility.

The results were so successful that he convinced me to start making them for customers.

Then came the blue-collar soaps.

Another hot summer day. Another commercial rooftop, where tar stays pretty melty when it’s sitting on a blazing hot roof…and he came home covered in tar.

Dry tar. Sticky tar. Tar-that-refused-to-leave tar.

Blue-collar soap was born.

He keeps a bottle in his work van at all times and has cleaned everything from dirt & oils to tar and the general grime that comes with working in the trades.

There have even been moments when chemicals ended up where chemicals absolutely should not be, and he needed to act fast.

On more than one occasion, he’s come home, wrapped me up in the world’s biggest bear hug, and told me how grateful he was that he had that soap with him when he needed it.

An ode to my husband… yet again. 🤎

My first marriage taught me many lessons, but perhaps the most important was this:

You should never have to earn basic care from the person who claims to love you.

During that time, I became severely ill. I couldn’t eat, couldn’t drink properly, couldn’t keep anything down, and repeatedly found myself in the ER searching for answers.

What hurt most wasn’t being sick.

It was feeling like a burden while I was sick.

That experience permanently changed my understanding of love and helped me gain the courage to prioritize myself.

Fast forward to last week.

My Endometriosis flared my sciatica so severely that I temporarily lost almost all mobility. It was painful, frightening, and incredibly humbling.

My husband?

He never left my side.

He helped me walk.
Helped me dress.
Helped me get to the bathroom.
Applied every balm, salve, heating pad, and medication he could find.
Stayed with me through panic attacks.
Sat beside me in the hospital.
And now that I’m home on strict bedrest, he practically shoots lasers out of his eyes every time I forget my restrictions. 😂

And then there was this (see photo - I brought them outside so y’all can see their true colors).

These flowers were grown by my husband from seed (I like to joke that I was the first flower he ever fell in love with). 🌸

He dreams of having his own flower stand one day, and without saying a word, he quietly picked some of his own blooms and placed them beside my bed to brighten my recovery.

His favorite saying whenever people compliment our marriage is:

“You have to water your flower.”

And trust me… he does.

This burly commercial HVAC technician of a Colombian, Cuban, and Italian man reminds me every day that love isn’t found in grand declarations.

It’s found in consistency.
In care.
In showing up.

Now here’s the funny part:

While he’s been taking care of me, I’ve secretly been planning a HUGE Father’s Day surprise for him…
