Happy CROWN Day! 👑👑👑
Oh what a time to be black! And NATURAL! Naturally ME that is! 🖤🤏🏾

The beauty of our BLACKNESS is resilient to the wishers of judgment. We have come so far as a community of people and I love that for us!

🖤💛MY HEART IS SO FULL 🖤💛

Sometimes support goes beyond the business. Sometimes it’s just love.

This weekend, as I prepare to receive the IAAM Culture Award for “Crown,” I’m overwhelmed by the pure generosity of these incredible brand partners who chose to sponsor not for ROI, but simply because they wanted to lift me up.

- you didn’t have to do this. There was no marketing strategy and no expected return. You simply said “we believe in you and we want to celebrate this historical moment with you.”

Your support is allowing my friends and family to witness this historic moment at the International African American Museum during Juneteenth weekend, and to gather for our celebratory brunch on Sunday. You’ve turned what could have been a personal milestone into a community celebration.
🎉 🖤🙏🏽

This is what authentic partnership looks like. This is what it means to support someone not just professionally, but personally.
I’m forever grateful. 🙏🏽

I’m not just grateful - I’m moved to tears by your kindness! Thank you for seeing me, believing in the movement, and choosing to be part of this sacred moment as well as uplift and highlight Juneteenth!

Some things can’t be measured in dollars - they can only be felt in the heart. 💛

🏆✨ BEYOND GRATEFUL ✨🏆

I am deeply humbled to be named a recipient of the Culture Award for “Crown.”🙏🏽🙌🏾✨💫

To be recognized by the International African American Museum for my work to create inclusive beauty is an incredible honor. Thank you. 🙏🏽

This award belongs to every black guest that I have had the privilege to not just service but emotionally support while they navigate respectability politics and texture discrimination. The ladies who I’ve had to convince to love themselves AS IS while creating the best version of themselves. The ladies whose tears I’ve had to wipe when they wanted to wear styles and colors they knew would get them fired- so we pivoted and compromised.
Compromised our culture , our expressions, our preferences, and our love language through the artistry of hair design. BUT we do what we always do and that’s RISE! We created magic behind the chair living on the edge with our creativity! 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Rhia award belongs to our entire community who believed transformation was possible and had the audacity to come together to move the needle. To every stylist who chose to see hair as a fabric, not a race. Those who had the courage to say yes to learning differently.

We lead an AUTHENTIC movement created out of the very lived in experiences of not only myself, but those who felt their voice was not heard.

Black culture deserves to be prioritized and celebrated at every turn. And on THIS Juneteenth weekend, we are celebrating The “Crown”—the dignity, heritage, innovation, and the brilliance of our minds. For 30+ years, I’ve taken up space in this industry. Having my work to dismantle barriers in our industry be honored at this historic institution? I’m speechless.
We are officially a part of history.
Locked and recorded. 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
I AM BLACK HISTORY. 📕📗📘
I can’t wait to celebrate with my family and friends from near and far all weekend long! 🙏🏽🙌🏾🖤 IT’S UP! 🎉
