COUNTY COMMISSION PURCHASES LAND FOR NEW JAIL

Land has been purchased for a new Finney County Jail.
The Finney County Commission approved the purchase of approximately 14 acres of land, owned by Wheatland Electric Cooperative, at the corner of Kansas Avenue and VFW Road for $483,000 at its regular meeting on Monday.
Derek Ramos, Finney County Administrator, said county staff has pursued the development of a new, stand-alone jail from 2024 through 2025 at the direction of the commission to accompany the remodel of the existing Law Enforcement Center.
“This direction follows extensive due diligence, needs assessments, third party architectural evaluations and multi-agency discussions,” he said. “Collectively, this work confirmed the need for a modern, purpose-built detention facility located at a site that supports long-term operational efficiency and reduced lifecycle cost.”
