💗 Our Merle Story — Where It Really Began

Instead of starting our Merle story with my sister and me, the studio owners, I want to take you back in time—to where our story really began.

Our mom, Neta, lovingly known as Nannie, always wanted to make sure that her girls had what they needed. When we were teenagers, that included introducing us to the original 3-Step Beauty Routine: Cleansing Cream, Miracol and Powder Base.

As you Merle girls know, this is where it all began! Those three products started Merle Norman Studios and, amazingly, are still sold today—95 years later! 💄

But our Merle story doesn’t end there…

Our mom became friends with the owner of the Midfield Merle Norman Studio. When she purchased a new studio in Hueytown and needed someone to manage it, she called our mom.

Mom successfully ran the Hueytown studio for over a year before deciding it was time to return to her favorite job—being a stay-at-home mom to her girls. ❤️

Fast forward to today, and our 84-year-young Nannie is still wearing her Merle products! She lives with me here in Gardendale, and you just might catch her hanging around the studio from time to time.

So when you walk through our doors, you’re not just stepping into a new Merle Norman Studio. You’re stepping into a story that started with our mom, continued through our family, and now lives on with us.

Dear Merle Girls,
A very special and heartfelt thank you to all our customers, staff, as well as family and friends for your love and support through our family’s 59 1/2 years as the owners of the Merle Norman Studio of Gardendale.

It is with great excitement that we introduce you to another Gardendale family – sisters: Melissa Belcher and Susan Simpson – that will be taking over ownership on 8/1/26.

They have wonderful plans to grow the existing business by offering ethician services through Melissa’s granddaughter, Hannah Crim, along with all the Merle products. So many of you have asked for this and they will be providing many of the most popular treatments.

We don’t want to steal too much of their thunder by sharing their full Merle Story but be confident that they come with a true connection to Merle Norman through their mom and have continued to be Merle Girls since their teen years.

Karen Sims and I will be here to help through training and transition over the next several weeks, so stop in to shop with us and meet Melissa, Susan and Hannah.
