Meet the Faces Who Started It All
💈A little history and appreciation for the people who built Hometown Barbers.
Every great shop has a story, and ours begins with Tina.

Before becoming a barber, Tina was a music teacher. After watching her stepfather, Steve, genuinely enjoy cutting her son's hair, she was inspired to pursue barbering herself. She trained and worked alongside Steve at City Barbers before deciding to take a leap of faith and open a shop of her own.

After months of planning, licensing, purchasing equipment, and putting in countless hours of hard work, Tina officially opened Hometown Barbers in August 2015. It was a true labor of love built from the ground up.

Steve brought more than 30 years of barbering experience to the industry. Throughout his career, he worked in a small neighborhood barbershop on Pleasant Street before eventually opening his own business, City Barbershop, on Marquette Street. Prior to Tina joining the Barbering industry, Steve sold City Barbershop to another owner. The shop continues to operate today under different ownership. Rather than retire from barbering, Steve chose to join Tina at Hometown Barbers, helping her build the welcoming, community-focused shop she envisioned.

In those early days, Tina was even teaching private music lessons out of the back room while growing the business. As word spread and more people discovered Hometown Barbers, the shop became so busy that she was able to dedicate herself to barbering full-time.

Over the past decade, Tina and Steve built more than just a successful business—they created a place where customers felt at home. Their commitment to traditional barbering, quality service, and genuine conversation established the reputation that Hometown Barbers is known for today.

In February 2024, Tina sold Hometown Barbers to its current owner, Brooke. While ownership changed, Tina and Steve never left. They both continue to work in the shop, simply on more limited schedules after many years of dedication—a well-earned change that allows them to enjoy a little more balance while continuing to serve the community they helped build.

Over the past two years, we've expanded the shop by adding more barber chairs, welcoming new team members, and continuing to grow while staying true to the foundation Tina and Steve created.

We've also heard some recent rumors that Hometown Barbers has closed or that Tina and Steve are no longer here.
We'd like to clear that up: Hometown Barbers is absolutely still open and thriving. Tina and Steve are both still part of the team, and we're proud to continue the legacy they started while welcoming both familiar and new faces through our doors every day.

Thank you to everyone who has supported Hometown Barbers over the years. We look forward to carrying on the tradition of an old-school barbershop with the same welcoming atmosphere, quality haircuts, and sense of community that has made this place feel like home for so many.

Our Barbershop is taking on the challenge of doing 2500 push ups starting today-July 1st Ending Sept 1st to donate at least $2500 to a local charity! Consider joining us help raise money to benefit our local community!

All proceeds will directly go to Montachusett Veterans Outreach Center, Inc. (MVOC)
