While the beard is a symbol of masculinity, virility and strength, the vikings also used their beards to put fear in their opponents as they traveled through Europe. Today's beards may not be intended for fear, but they can still be seen as a symbol of strength. Whether long or short, bushy or braided, its important to keep it feeling soft and tamed. And that includes the skin underneath.
Viking beards weren't necessarily long and bushy, but they were well-groomed. It is believed that in the viking era, beards were kept in shape using essential oils.
