We’ve all been there: the passion we once had for God has been replaced by something else. Praise God that the promise of the new covenant is there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1). So don’t let shame swallow you up when your internal flame has grown dim. Ask the Lord for help to burn for the things that once ignited your heart…and move forward with Him. Some of the things I do in those moments is get back to the fundamentals of the faith: prayer, fasting, meditating on the Scriptures, silence, stillness, repentance, and fellowship with other believers. Some of the authors and stories that have influenced me to press in and burn for more of God are Leoneard Ravenhill (“Why Revival Tarries”), Watchman Nee (“Normal Christian Life”), Rees Howells (“Rees Howells Intercessor”), Art Katz (“Apostolic Foundations” and “And They Crucified Him”), Hudson Taylor (“Hudson Taylor’s Spiritual Secret”), David Wilkerson (“David Wilkerson: The Cross, The Switchblade, & The Man Who Believed”), Praying Hyde (“The Life Story of John Hyde”), Thomas Watson (“Heaven Taken By Storm”). I find that hearing the stories of what God did in the lives of these saints also stirs my hunger again.
