Welcome to Hanna's Healthy Kitchen, a place to find inspiration for healthy living! My roots in health and nutrition run deep.

I grew up with parents who studied holistic healing and nutrition under a medical doctor and were decades ahead of their time in adopting a whole foods-plant based diet over 40 years ago. We were healthy, rarely got sick and excelled in school. This healthy lifestyle powered me through years of dance and honors classes but in college everything changed. Balsamic blast of flavor meets, crunchy juicy bliss with these delicious deconstructed bruschetta bites. I take a thick slice of English cucumber, top with pesto, nut based cheese, Campari tomato, fresh basil, a drizzle of balsamic glaze and crushed salt and pepper. Plant-based and Gluten-Free. This makes a perfect, fresh and delicious appetizer! ❤️🌱😋

Plant based eating tip- Stock up on a variety of bulk dry goods! These are just portions of some of the beautiful dry foods I bought this week to last for several weeks to come! Chia seeds, raw almonds, raw cashews, rolled oats, green lentils, black beans, pinto beans, red lentils and walnuts. Buying in bulk can save you money and ensures you will have food on hand if you can't get to the store. With some water and spices, simple dry goods can turn into delicious soups, burrito fillings, morning oatmeal, granola bars, creamy nut butters/cream/queso, hearty stews and veggie burgers. Eating real, whole food from the earth for healing, vibrant health and energy.... One beautiful bite at a time!

Heart healthy sweet potatoes are delicious and they love you in so many ways! They are a good source of B6 known to help prevent heart attacks, of Vitamin C which supports collagen production for youthful skin, boost the immune system with iron and Vitamin D and some of the nutrients in them actually absorb better with a little fat, so indulge in my favorite way of preparing them straight out of the oven with a little drizzle of coconut oil and Himalayan salt. This 3 ingredient dish is a great lunch paired with your favorite fresh salad! Sweet Potatoes makes a super first food for baby too! Sweet potatoes are so versatile-as a main dish, a mashed side or made into baked chips or fries to snack on. You can even slice and bake and use as a base for a sandwich or tostada! They are absolutely loaded with nutrient power and please the tastebuds, too! Lots of love coming from these sweet, sweet potatoes! ❤️❤️❤️

Berries for your BRAIN!! A truly “smart”, sweet snack! 🫐

Berries may slow brain aging by as much as two and a half years. Eating just one cup of blueberries a day has been shown to improve long-term memory in older adults. You can even correlate the cognitive improvements with enhanced brain activation by using state-of-the-art brain scan technology to actually visualize the improved blood flow to those same regions of the brain caused by the blueberry consumption.

A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study on children compared about one cup of blueberries to two cups and none at all. What did the researchers find? Blueberries improved cognitive performance, and the more berries, the better. And, the improvements weren't seen after 12 weeks of eating berries, but within hours of just a single meal with blueberries.

If you eat blueberries week after week, you also get chronic benefits, such as reduced artery stiffness and a boost in your natural killer cells, which are one of your body’s natural first lines of defense against viral infections and cancer.

Berries are some of the most healthful foods we should include in our daily routine. This is why they have their own special category in Dr. Greger’s Daily Dozen checklist. Download the free Daily Dozen app today, and start ticking off your daily servings of berries.

The industrialized food system is great at providing cheap commodity items at scale — until something threatens global supply chains. It’s great at employing millions of people — but gives them little or no voice in company policy. It’s great at shipping goods around the world — but terrible when it comes to compensating local growers and producers fairly.

👉 For all these and many other reasons, food co-ops are a valuable, community-based, principled alternative. But what is a food co-op? What does co-op stand for? And why might you want to join (or shop at) one? Find out here: https://frn.co/3Ns36JR
