REALLY debated with myself to post this. As I wanted to put out content for the Behind the Chair Awards this year I started getting more irritated by the categories for the awards. As we know I don’t gender my cuts and I don’t see why that still needs to be a thing. This is my client Maddie, who identifies as a woman, but the only category this cut could be qualified in would be “Men’s Cuts”. I wouldn’t apply to the fades category as that is mostly bald fades and creative fades. Most of the cuts I do are short cuts but aren’t pixies, they aren’t bobs, and they are short cuts on women.
The description of the category literally reads “Please note, while Fades are Men’s haircuts…”
It’s 2026, fades are for everyone and anyone

I didn’t even want to enter this picture because I didn’t feel it was right but then at the same time I couldn’t say my peace and hopefully get the judges to see the problem in this contest unless I did. Maybe 2027 will be different.

It’s been a joy to be able to know Maddie and it’s always sad when clients depart but that’s part of working in this industry.
During our time together I got to help her do a transformation cut which is one of my favorite services to do.
After being nervous af about that first haircut 😂 once she made that first chop she was all in and down to try new things almost every time she came in

❄️ SNOW DAY POLICY ❄️
Winter has officially arrived early so I wanted to put this out there now

Your safety and mine always comes first. If the roads are bad and you feel it’s unsafe please cancel.
Because I will not hesitate to cancel the day if I feel I need to.
Should that happen, I’ll personally contact everyone on the schedule to get you rebooked.

If you don’t hear from me, the shop is still rockin and I’ll see you at your appointment time.

And just a gentle reminder: what the weather looks like on your street might be totally different from mine (or the shop’s). If I call it a snow day, it’s because it really isn’t safe and the same goes for you. Haircuts can wait.
