We will be collecting any baskets, gift cards, or donations at the salon for my Mother-In-Law. She was recently diagnosed with lung cancer, that has spread to her brain in 7 spots. It takes a lot for me to feel impressed with myself over hair I've done, after doing it for so long. Doing a great job is expected, and I rarely blow my own mind because well, I'm SUPPOSED to nail it. It's my job.

However... today I was faced with a challenge. A client ordered extensions that we had picked out, and they DID NOT come in the color we picked out. They showed up a very bright orange/copper. She wanted a change after we have done variations of blonde highlights for nearly 20 years, and was willing to still send it with what came in. It was a lot for her to even consider the change, and wasn't about to scare herself out if it. She was ready. Terrified, but ready. But.. I was not about to let her have clown hair.

We started with her hair. I filled it first so the final copper color would grab evenly. Even with copper tones (to be vague) being in the filler, her hair unexpectedly did not grab any of it the way I expected it to. Next I put a straight copper on top, and again, it did not grab the copper. It did however create the most beautiful color we both fell absolutely in LOVE with. Once in a while, things with hair color will make absolutely zero sense as to why they do what they do. This was one of those rare times. Totally mind blown at this point.

Now, the challenge. These extensions were still BRIGHT ORANGE. Since we now LOVED the tone her hair came out, we didn't need to adjust that anymore. We now needed to get the extensions to match the color we just accidentally created. This is where magic happened. MA👏GIC👏.

The starting point of her natural hair was of blonde highlights, with some lowlights and her natural roots and grays. The starting point of the extensions was a different texture than her natural hair, and again, the bright orange color. The chemistry of color can sometimes be terrifying, especially when it's on extensions that a client just spent hundreds of dollars on, and undoubtedly trusts you with .

When I tell you that I fu***ng NAILED this color... I fu***ng NAILED this color. The first picture is me holding one of the pieces of extensions up to her hair we had just colored, to make sure it matched... the 2nd-5th picture is the final result. The 6th picture is her hair that typically would have been ready for a good trim and some fresh highs/lows. In the background of that photo you can see the orange extensions on the tray. The last photo is a pic of her extensions, that truly do not do justice of how bright they really were.

The color we ended up with was a million times better than what she even thought she wanted. We spent about 6 hours together making sure this came out perfect for her, and we are both THRILLEDDDD with the result!!

So thankful to loyal customers that become friends, and trust you with their hair more than you trust yourself sometimes 🤣 trusting the process can be nauseating at times, but the faith they have in the creative freedom they give me, is truly humbling ❤️ I appreciate you beyond words!!!
