To our wonderful Bountiful Blossoms Bee Co supporters:

We wanted to update you all on the events happening in our hive. As you may know, we spent the last year abroad, working on a global honey bee research project in New Zealand, Tahiti, and Chile. This work was life-changing and has altered our priorities going forward with our lives and our bee business. Carol’s research has now expanded to other parts of the globe, as she was able to expand the machine learning bee sounds project started by her daughter, Amara, and develop it into a bee health prediction tool that is useful to bee health everywhere. With this, we have decided to focus more on this research project and will be shrinking the scope of our retail sales with Bountiful Blossoms Bee Company. Specifically:

1. We are closing the retail shop on our farm
2. We will sell items through our website, but only on a seasonal basis, with a significant reduction in the number of products available. Orders will be available for shipping only, with a $10 flat shipping fee. We will likely have the online shop open for the month of November only this year.
3. Honey will only be available at special events (no on-the-farm fill-ups or shipping of honey). This year our only event will be attending the Gifford Park Holiday Market at Yates in Omaha, NE on December 2nd.

We know this news may be disappointing, but we have determined that the best way for us to be able to help pollinators at this time is through the lens of scientific research, so we had to make the difficult decision of re-prioritizing our efforts.

Stay tuned for details about upcoming events, online sales, and bee research updates. THANK YOU!

Carol recently traveled to the Chatham Islands, about 500 miles off the east coast of New Zealand, deep in the South Pacific Ocean. Why? Because she loves bees, and the Chatham Islands are one of the last places on earth that don't have the varroa mite, a destructive parasite that, when combined with human's knack for messing up our planet, has decimated European honey bee populations around the globe.

Carol collected bee samples and sound samples from bees at Go Wild Apiary owned by Kaai Silbery, and spoke at an apiculture cluster meeting, organized by Kaai and Oyster Workshop about the importance of biosecurity on their islands to preserve this bee sanctuary where colony deaths are low and bees collect nectar from unique plants endemic to the islands, such as the tarahinau tree.

It is one of those trips that changes a person. Impactful. Inspirational.
