Where is she now, the child that I see
Does she remember the joy in her heart
The child who would wake up and jump out of bed
With her sudden, spontaneous laugh.
The child who loved meadows, would sit there for hours
With daisy chains wrapped in her hair
Serendipity summers, in woodlands and streams
Running wild, like a deer with no care.
Where was the girl who just loved to watch
As Romany’s moved onto the green
Vivid patterned caravans pulled by a horse
Fires made with kettles on to steam.
Where is the girl who loved to read books
Learning all that she could of the world
When did she stop to let go of her dreams?
Stop painting her art deco swirls.
I look in the mirror and I see she’s still there
Much older, with a life full of love
The wizened face tells of all i have seen
My hands show the work they have done.
How I’d love to tell youngsters, as they tut at my gait
That I used to dash places too
I never stood still, my life was a rush
Finding so many things I must do.
Now I just potter and I feel her inside
Saying, stop, just look at this rose
Smell it’s sweet scent, take time to slow down
Let’s sit here, we’ll watch the leaves blow.
I’ll just close my eyes, as I hear the birds sing
The spring sun is warm on my face
I see her again, with plaits down her back
Take her hand, to a more heavenly place.

Paradise looks a little something like this in our book 🌊
