Some clients assume harder pressure is always the answer/solution to their pain. That is not always the case. Deep tissue is more than just “go as deep as you can”. And sometimes harder pressure isnt necessary to fix the problem/soft tissue issue.

I usually apply pressure until I feel resistance. I don’t force it. And I’m not going to apply so much pressure that my client is tensing up, regardless of what they “want”. If the pressure is causing you to tense up, that is defeating the purpose of the session. If you are just looking for a therapist to go as hard as possible and inflict pain, I’m not your girl.
