On January 23rd TDLR proposed new rule changes for applying/renewing barber & cosmetology licenses. This new rule requires selected applicants to provide proof of their legal presence in the United States and allows the Department to deny an application if the applicant does not provide the required proof. The earliest these new rules can be in effect/adopted is February 22nd, 2026. You have until the to renew your license if you haven’t done so yet, and more importantly, to submit your comments and concerns for this new rule change.
