A quick update from Bespin Massage.
Beginning July 1, the price of a 90-minute massage session will increase from $120 to $130.
This is the first adjustment I've made to my 90-minute rate in quite some time and will help me continue providing the personalized care and service that my clients have come to expect.
If you already have a 90-minute session booked before July 1, your appointment will be honored at the current rate.
Thank you for your continued support. I appreciate the trust you place in me and look forward to helping you feel your best.

Can a massage replace a full night's sleep?
No.
Sleep is essential, and massage can't replace the restorative functions that happen while you sleep.
What massage can do is help encourage many of the body's natural relaxation and recovery responses. Research has shown that massage may help reduce stress hormones, encourage relaxation, and activate the parasympathetic nervous system—the part of the nervous system responsible for "rest and recover."
That's one reason many people leave a massage feeling refreshed, calmer, and more rested than when they arrived.
So while a 60-minute massage isn't the same as 7-8 hours of sleep, it can be a great way to help your body recover from stress, tension, and the demands of daily life.

Father's Day is coming up, and if you're looking for a gift that's a little different, consider giving Dad something he can actually use.
Whether he's active, works a physical job, spends long hours at a desk, or just carries a lot of tension, massage can be a great way to relax, recover, and recharge.
Gift cards are available online and make an easy Father's Day gift.

One of the questions I get asked most about cupping is:
"Do the marks mean you're bruised?"
Not exactly.
The marks left by cupping are caused by suction drawing blood to the surface of the tissue. Unlike a bruise, they're generally not the result of trauma or damaged tissue.
People often use cupping to help address muscle tension, stiffness, and restricted movement. Many clients say they enjoy the decompression effect, especially in areas that feel chronically tight.
The marks can vary from person to person and typically fade over the course of several days.
Have questions about cupping? Feel free to ask during your next session.

Meet Your Therapist
Hi, I'm Jordan, owner of Bespin Massage.
I've been a licensed massage therapist since 2013. I originally entered the profession while looking for a new direction in life, but I quickly discovered how much I enjoy helping people feel better and working with my hands every day.
I specialize in deep tissue massage, sports massage, and cupping therapy. Many of the clients I work with are teachers, nurses, dental hygienists, athletes, and people dealing with the physical demands of everyday life.
My goal is for every client to feel calm and comfortable when they walk through the door and leave feeling more relaxed, mobile, and refreshed.
One thing that makes Bespin Massage different is that I'm independently owned and operated. I don't have quotas to meet or routines to follow. Every session is customized to the individual and focused on what they need that day.
I also wish more people viewed massage as therapy rather than a luxury. Massage can play an important role in helping people manage stress, tension, recovery, and overall well-being.
And for those who have wondered where the name came from—Bespin is a gas giant in the Star Wars universe and home to Cloud City. The name always felt calm and relaxing to me, which is exactly the kind of environment I wanted to create.

One thing I’ve learned as a massage therapist is that stress doesn’t just stay in your head — people carry it physically too.
Tight shoulders.
Jaw tension.
Headaches.
Trouble relaxing even when you finally have time to.
A lot of people come in thinking they just need their back worked on, but once their nervous system finally slows down a bit, they realize how tense they’ve actually been feeling.
That’s one reason massage can leave people feeling calmer, lighter, and more rested beyond just muscle relief.

A lot of people think stress only affects the mind, but it has a very real physical effect on the body too.
When your body stays in a stressed state for too long, your sympathetic nervous system (“fight or flight”) stays more active. That can contribute to:
– Tight muscles
– Headaches
– Jaw tension
– Poor sleep
– Fatigue
– Feeling constantly tense or on edge
Massage can help encourage the parasympathetic nervous system (“rest and recover”) to become more active, helping the body relax and regulate stress hormones more effectively.
That’s one reason people often notice benefits beyond just muscle relief after a session—they feel calmer, breathe easier, and sleep better too.

Things I didn’t expect when becoming a massage therapist:
– How many loads of laundry I’d do every week
– How important good shoes are
– How physically demanding massage can actually be
– How often people apologize for being tense
– And how many clients fall asleep mid-session
There’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes that most people never really think about.
Fresh linens every session, cleaning, laundry, resetting the room, taking care of my own body so I can keep taking care of others—it’s a lot more than just the hour people are on the table.
But honestly, that’s part of what I enjoy about it.
Creating a space where people can finally relax for a little while and leave feeling noticeably better is worth all the extra work that comes with it.
