In case you or someone you know wants to donate to a food pantry or needs its services, I've got you. I just posted these on the Resource Wall in the office.
I Know that Amore Trattoria on Alpine also has a new (probably temporary) food pantry while SNAP benefits are unavailable.
And Lantern Coffee Shop on Commerce SW is having a food and hygiene drive through Nov 22.
They're asking for: Ramen, Mac 'n cheese, pasta, jarred pasta sauce, canned meat, canned veggies, canned meals (ie spaghetti Os, etc), instant potatoes, rice, soup, menstrual products, shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste.
Lotus Brew Coffee on Diamond is having a free community potluck (see their website or social media for rules about allergens for bringing a dish to pass) every Sunday from 6-8pm throughout the month of November.

In case you’re wondering where I am and why the office is closed midweek this week

Wednesday fun fact (about me): Sloths are NOT my favorite animal despite having quite a presence in my office. Don't get me wrong I adore sloths! But... My favorite animal is actually the octopus. Only problem is that they don't enjoy the same cute and cuddly factor as sloths do.
So do you think I made the right decision? 😂🦥🐙

Important Notice:
Starting today, the right side elevator is being replaced. But never fear, the elevator to the left of the stairs (did you even know there was a 2nd elevator?) was replaced and reopened 2 weeks ago.
The new elevator is much more friendly to folks with vision impairment: it verbally tells you which floor you’re on, has braille under every button inside the elevator, and is brightly lit for higher contrast.
If you, like me, don’t care for bright lights I can assure you that the ride is very fast so you only need to accommodate yourself with sunglasses or closed eyes for a few seconds.
Photo 1: Sign reading, “Elevator out of service. Pardon our dust! This elevator is taking a much needed vacation and will be back better than ever, just like its friend to the left.”
Photo 2: Foyer stairs and closed elevator to the right.
Photo 3: Foyer stairs and shiny new elevator to the left.

Good news! You no longer have to risk taking the scenic route via the right elevator (IYKYK) because the new one on the left is finally operational. It’s very bright inside but it’s quick and quiet. A soft voice tells you which floor you’re on as well… just in case you close your eyes because of the brightness. Or maybe that’s just me

“Sleep hygiene” won’t rewire your nervous system. Neither will massage, but it can take it down a notch or two while you’re on the table. Which is to say, you never need to apologize for falling asleep during a massage.

Stay cool this weekend! Here are some great ways to manage the heat.
And don’t forget the classic cold pack to the back of the neck and good old fashioned cold water foot baths.
The next few days are about to be HOT ☀️
Here is a list of cooling centers across the city. The availability of cooling centers may change based on weather conditions, power outages, or holidays. We recommend calling ahead to confirm their status or dialing 211 for the most up-to-date information.
Thank you to the Grand Rapids Area Coalition to End Homelessness for this information.
City pools and splash pads are a great way to cool off on hot summer days. 🏊😎
