Personally experiencing decades of chronic pain is what led me into this career. I have found that a combination of gentle techniques (myofascial release, cranial sacral therapy) that target the nervous system and connective tissue plus trigger point massage is very effective.
Trigger points (and scars) are sneaky as they refer pain to other areas of the body. For example, there is a spot in the calf that causes pain in the lower back at the SI joint! A wonderful thing about trigger points, though, is that once we identify them, you are able to work on them yourself at home.

Many of the people I work with and who come to my workshops are highly intelligent. Their wit and ability to problem solve has served them well in many areas of their lives, and they figure there must be something they're missing in terms of how to navigate big feelings or triggers; something they still need to 'figure out.'
But the real answer is that that logical, problem-solving part of ourselves isn't helpful when we're feeling overwhelmed by emotion —
you will not be able to think your way out of a big feeling.
And what often and easily happens when we're trying to rationalize ourselves out of a feeling is that we get frustrated at the persistence of the feeling, so then we go ahead and add shame to it. We make the persistence of the feeling about who we are.
Woof.
This often happens because as we were developing as tiny humans, we didn't get to fully express the full range of our emotions, or didn't get help learning how to navigate them. We were taught not to express certain feelings or were shamed for exposing certain parts of ourselves to the world.
So we observed and watched and learned how we were supposed to be. But to truly move through big feelings, we have to let go of the stories in our heads, soften our judgments around our emotional experiences, connect to our physical bodies, and allow the emotion to move through us. To give ourselves compassion and generosity as we feel.
This feels vulnerable because it requires letting go of trying to control the outcome. But it’s imperative if you want to get better at being with & moving through challenging moments and difficult feelings throughout your life.
The Let It Go (emotional self management) Workshop begins June 3rd, and I'll help you learn how to bring the logical and emotional together, the brain and the body, so that you can begin meeting yourself more safely in moments of emotional difficulty.
This is the only time I'll be teaching this workshop in 2025! And the 4pm is filling up quickly.
