It takes courage to recognize when a season has ended and step into the next.

15 years THE RISE SALON has been my baby. I’m grateful to God for entrusting me with this vision—one that has always been about more than “just hair”.

This journey has meant the privilege of connecting with individuals who’ve sat in my chair. Opportunities to offer encouragement, kindness, education, laugh, and grow.

R.I.S.E. was birthed from the tools that helped me navigate life’s challenges:

A Dream Fulfilled

368 Diamond was the realization of a vision God placed in my heart many years ago—a dream come true. Through this space, I was able to accomplish two major milestones: first, becoming a salon owner, and second, creating salon suites as a landlord.

Every single day I walked through those doors felt like the first day. The fulfillment of a promise is a beautiful thing, and I never took it for granted.

However, the past three years have been both beautiful and incredibly challenging. While I celebrated this business transition, I also walked through the difficult journey of my father’s illness and, ultimately, his passing. This season took a toll on me in many ways.

Now, on the other side of my father’s passing, I have taken the time to reevaluate my vision. I’ve decided that transitioning to a smaller location is the best step for me in this season. While this change brings natural sadness, I truly believe greater things lie ahead. This is a fresh start—a new season of blessings and favor.

As I step into this new chapter, I am embracing a name that truly reflects my passion as a curl specialist.

When clients initially start working with their curls, they think straightening is needed for formal occasions HOWEVER, once you become familiar with working with your beautiful curls you soon realize that updos, and formal styles can be absolutely stunning.

Let me introduce you to Hillary!👋🏾

With her permission, I’m EXCITED to share her with you all.

When Hillary first came to see me, she was experiencing unevenness, and breakage throughout her hair due to a few things but mainly “protective styles” that weren’t so protective (being applied incorrectly). This lead to thinning/hair loss around her edges, and severe breakage throughout her hair.

We tried to remedy the situation by properly applying protective styles in hopes that with significantly less traction, and proper care, that her hair would start to recover. Unfortunately things got worse.

As a stylist, it’s never easy to tell a woman ,” I think you should shave your head and start fresh😅), that can be a hard pill to swallow. Because of the severity of the situation, that is what we did.

Now don’t be scared😂… this is not the solution for everyone! I only suggest this if I feel it is absolutely necessary.

I’m so incredibly proud of Hillary. She came into the salon with a very optimistic attitude, and I’m grateful she trusted me with her hair. She was ready to see change, and embraced this step with such grace although I know it was different, and hard.

We shaved her head beginning of 2020, and LOVED her hair back to life. It brings such pride and joy to see how much progress she’s (Hillary, and Amagdala(her hairs name❤️) have made).

I recommended that she come in once weekly to start for :

➰And for me to monitor every inch of growth to ensure her hair was properly moisturized as this was a very sensitive stage
➰I recommended a dermatologist (a woman with curls herself!) to diagnose what was going on with hair loss, in addition to my care

Prepping the hair correctly for a is the key to ensuring the accuracy of the cut (which is typically done prior to the styling service(curl Makeover).

To simplify even more, this simply means:

➰wash & style your curls 24 hours prior to your appointment (using minimal product)

➰Come to the salon with your curls:

•ABSOLUTELY NO PONYTAILS ❌
(Ponytails distort the curls)

•DOWN(curls out & free)☑️

•DRY(completely dry☑️

•DETANGLED (Free of snags, and knots)☑️
