5 years ago today, Joey was our first guinea pig for HydroJelly masks. Being as bougie as he was, he chose the gold one.🤴🤑

He was my boyfriend and the person I leaned on when I needed a break from the stress that comes with owning a business. We met right here at Lex. After he got his niece, Angela, a facial here for Christmas, she decided she wanted to become an esthetician and eventually came to work at Lex.

So I guess it makes sense that he still likes to make his presence known around here. Especially around this time of year, with the 5 year anniversary of his death coming up.

Over the next week or so, don’t be surprised if our phones start acting weird, the internet goes out, the lights start flickering, or something else completely random happens.

Angela gets the worst of it. He has knocked things off shelves at her and somehow managed to make autocorrect spell out “Joey” on the iPad when she was typing nothing that should have remotely resulted in Joey. So if you’re easily scared by ghosts, maybe don’t book with Angela this week or two. 👻😂

As much as we joke about it, I think there’s something pretty special about the fact that the place where we met is also one of the places where we still feel like he’s around.

Just… maybe he could leave the Wi-Fi alone this year and help us win the lottery 🤷‍♀️💜

We do anywhere between 2–7 loads of laundry a day. So when our washing machine broke, it was kind of a big deal.

For over a week we worked around it, which meant bringing laundry home. Thankfully Angela and Isabelle were both willing to take some home too because there was no way I was doing all that laundry when I got home from work 😮‍💨

Finally, my dad and I found a day that worked for both of us to try to fix it. Because that’s a fun part of owning a business… deciding whether you want to pay someone else to fix something or buy the part and figure it out yourself. Luckily, we had already successfully replaced this part a few years ago, so I had faith in us.
Pay someone: easier and probably faster
Fix it myself: way cheaper and a good reminder that apparently I have a lot of random skills I never planned on needing. 😂

The washing machine is fixed, the laundry is caught up, and I can go back to worrying about the things I actually expected to worry about when I opened a spa… until something else unexpected comes up. 😬🫣
