When someone gives that much of themselves, the cost eventually shows up in the body.

Burnout isn’t a moral failure.
It’s the bill coming due.

I didn’t leave because I didn’t care.
I left because I cared so much there was nothing left to take from.

I’m so deeply grateful for the love and memories shared here. These words mean more than I can say. 🤍

Guys… the inevitable is here.
I’m officially retiring from hairdressing.

I know this will come as a surprise to many of you, especially those who still have appointments on the books. My last day behind the chair will be January 31st. I wanted to share this myself rather than disappear or let you hear it secondhand. You all deserved more than that.

I’ve been in this industry for 21 years, and in that time I’ve seen it change in so many ways and I’ve seen myself change right along with it.

I’ve truly enjoyed having all of you in my chair. I watched your kids grow up. I was there for the big moments, the hard moments, the fresh starts, and the “just cut it all off” days…which we all know I would’ve spent the entire appointment talking through why you wanted to cut it all off than just doing it blindly.

I’ve been hanging on longer than I probably should have, simply because this is a hard goodbye to say. But after 21 years, I know in my bones that it’s time. After the fall with geriatic pregnancy, the thyroid cancer, and now the no color ban…This old millennial hairstylist is officially burnt out.

From my heart to yours, please know that I truly loved being your confidant, your friend, and your hairdresser. Thank you for trusting me, growing with me, and allowing me to be a small part of your lives for so long.

I’ll miss you more than I can put into words. 💔
With love, always.

Samantha

Hi friends,

After talking with my doctor, it’s time for me to get real about my health. Since my surgery in February, I’ve been trying so hard to push through, people-pleasing and wanting to be the stylist I was before. Coloring hair nonstop and keeping the same pace. The truth is, I can’t. I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Half of my thyroid has already been removed, and there are traces on the other side. Since returning to hair color in March, I’ve watched my health decline quickly.

I know some of you may wonder, “But Sam, you still dye yarn!” The easiest way I can explain the difference is this: when I dye yarn, the only risk is me inhaling dye particles, and I wear a respirator mask from start to finish. With hair color, I’m exposed to ammonia fumes and multiple chemical fumes constantly, and even though I’ve tried several way to continue doing haircolor IE wearing a respirator like I do when I dye yarn or cutting back, it’s just not enough. My body simply can’t handle it anymore.

So, as painful as it is to say, I have to draw a hard line immediately: I am done with hair color. I know this feels abrupt, and I am truly sorry for that, but it’s the harsh truth. For my health, it’s no longer an option. I will still be here for haircuts, and I truly love and appreciate every one of you. This has been a heartbreaking decision, months in the making, but after talking with my doctor, I know something has to change and this is it.

I will be reaching out to the few people who have color appointments with me asap.

Thank you for your love, support, and understanding as I take this step to protect my health.

💜 Sam

Hey Everyone! I know I’ve been MIA for a bit but I’ve been going through some health issues that I’m finally ready to talk about.

In July of 2024, when I was 6 months postpartum, I found a lump on my throat. It very quickly was diagnosed as a goiter and that I had hashimotos.

3 months later when I had a follow up, hoping for stasis, I instead found out everything had gotten worse.

So I got a new doctor, and was advised to take a break from any chemicals as it can cause some problems if you are already sensitive.

January of 2025 I got a biopsy on my node (goiter) and my 2 biggest lymph nodes. My lymph nodes were okay as they could tell but my node came back suspicious. (How dare it be sus!)

So where do we stand now? I’m having a Thyroidectomy in a week, because apparently being sus isn’t good and we want that node out!

What does this mean for the future for hair color? Well, I have been cleared to do 2 color clients a week granted I wear a respirator mask the whole time gloves as well. I have done a few of my very loyal OGs and am not taking new clients. Most of my clientele I have advised to the wonderful teal.cosmetology who is my booth renter.

I am still available for haircuts, if you would love to have one. Please cross your fingers for a great surgery, a fast recovery, and (if there should be any) resection of any and all cancer. 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Love you all ❤️

Samantha
